good band that

Yes, I have seen them live back in the day.

Have tried many times to play the solo on Queen of the Reich but my fingers just aren't up to it.

Mind you, they're not up to quite a few solos...

Nah, if someone was going to come round your house in 6 weeks and shoot you if you couldnt play it then you'd learn it, never underestimate the human being's capability to learn stuff.

In my opinion, it's about being in a city where you have to serve the ruling elite because "all the gifts of life are held within our walls." and because they have a big gang since "equality (is) our stock in trade."

Neil Peart got a lot of his inspiration for the 2112 album from the book Anthem by Ayn Rand

It's possible he's lying. Suppose for a moment it's a real city, and women all over were proud of it.

If so, if Rush didn't want cancellation, they had to make up a different backstory to hide their inspiration.

Or maybe they felt it was really a little bit like the book, which I have not read.

they did not have cancellation back when 2112 was written, at least not like they have today

unless you are John Lennon and say that the Beatles are more popular than Jesus

Are you seriously saying that if some musician really offended all the women who go to rock concerts, they wouldn't shun the musician's act?

Just because they didn't call it "cancelled" in 1976?

Ayn Rand lived in Soviet Russia.

I have not read Anthem but it is possible it contains themes related to my point, however distantly.

But none of you are supposed to say you know that, because one of your leaders wrote:

"But if you go carrying pictures of Chairman Mao,
You ain't gonna make it with anyone anyhow,
"cause you know it's gonna be
(shoo bee dooo waa)
all right...."

yup

They gave Motley Crew a lot more grief over the song "Shout at the Devil"

No one really complained about the music video "Looks that Kill" where women are locked up in cages and stuff

I think the main thing is people did not get offended so easily back then, except the really conservative Christians

Or maybe it was the conservative Christians that had the means / platforms to complain about things they did not like

we did not have the internet where pretty much anyone could get their opinions out to the public

She spent her teenage years in Soviet Russia.

The poor were probably far more disgruntled and they were in power. They probably had a long list of grievances going back hundreds of years against the rich.

They were probably a good deal more disgruntled than people who had to choose between staying in the ghetto or "working" their way to the top in the West.

But, both her overseers and the machine in charge of my hypothetical city could have shared the same fault of wanting to inflict humiliations to affirm that they were now in charge.

LOL. Nah, we didn’t even think about that woke crap back then. No one was looking for things that offended them, it just didn’t happen. If it did it was very isolated. Everyone’s offended now.

One of the first songs I ever learned. I use to play in a Rush cover band in HS and out of HS. We did songs off every album up to Signals which is when we split up. Use to know all of 2112 back in the day. Would be fun to go back and relearn all of that stuff.

You're saying no one got boycotted in the entire 1970s.

Who mentioned woke?
