PM Abe was only 67 years old.

Tokyo time 5:54 pm

July 8 , 2022 Friday

The 41 year old killer worked for the Japan Self Defense force in the PAST. Up to 2005

News conference will begin at 6pm Tokyo time.

Abe's family lived in Nagato, Yamaguchi Prefecture , but was born in Tokyo. Abe was always popular here because we thought of him as a local person.

He was extremely controversial, the Japanese would consider him their version of Trump, though you and I would probably disagree.

By Japanese standards Abe was a conservative nationalist and a bit of a popularist (Again, by Japanese standards), he supported the idea of expanding Japan's military and he was extremely unpopular with Chinese and Koreans because he wanted to move on from the whole issue of war guilt. It's a shock that somebody actually killed him, but it's not hard to see why some people disliked him.

He was one of the most divisive leaders that Japan has had in the last 40 years.

Not that he deserved to be assassinated, of course, but he was extremely controversial (by Japanese standards) because of his stance on re-armament and the legacy of WWII.

No. It was necessary. Abe’s grandfather, Nobusuke Kishi, who was arrested as a war criminal and later became prime minister, had a long history of associating with yakuza. Abe was essentially raised by his grandfather.

Abe, a yakuza boss, was in trouble with the law. No angels in this world.

THIS just GOES to PROVE.... Gun laws, do not work..

He had some type of hand-made shotgun.

If there is such a will, people will find a way.

I do not believe it was a Chines hit, I think they would
of gave him a proper hand gun at the least..

Why are these people not screened? Any metal detector would of picked that
barrel up, and he never would of been feet away from ABE..

If that’s true then maybe people should be offering condolences to his crime family? Or maybe his crime family had him killed?

Condolences to the people of Japan who loved him.

R.I.P. Shinzo Abe

I think his killer will soon join him... Japan still has capital punishment. Perhaps not even pleading insanity will save him from the hangman.

Well I thought he seemed like a well liked guy really just as he was such a long serving leader-I know he had huge respect on the global stage.

You mentioned his stance on re-armament and the legacy of WWII-I wonder if his killer was bothered by those things as he was military/ex military?

So he wanted to move on from the World Order and didn't want to go along with the Chinese? I begin to see the problem ...

They weren't screened because there aren't guns like that in Japan, so it's extremely safe.

But my thoughts did along yours honestly. If someone wants to kill, they will.

My condolences go to the family of the former Prime Minister and the people of Japan.

I may assume that this was a hint to the current Prime Minister of Japan from the United States.

As far as I remember, he stated that Japan did not want to join the AUKUS and resisted drawing Japan into a full-scale confrontation with China.

Shinzo was killed with a handmade gun in a country with one of the strictest gun laws in the planet, you can ban guns but you can't ban motivations or ideas.

RIP Shinzo.

I'd be curious to hear what Japanese citizens thought of him. US media didn't care for him much because he had a good working relationship with Trump, so they are physically incapable of objectivity on him.

Keep in mind Western media didn't particularly care for Zelensky either, until Russia invaded Ukraine.
