That looks like the equivalent to a WW2 LSU. It is just a little ship. Why are they bothering mentioning it if everyone got off safe.

LSU is Louisiana State University.

WWII saw LSTs and LSMs and LCVPs.
the D106 is described as an LST type 'Alligator Class'
news.usni.org...

Satellite images provided to USNI News by Maxar Technologies prove the Alligator-class landing ship tank (LST) that was seen on video on Thursday was underwater at the side of the pier, with the superstructure and forecastle sticking up above the water.

not wanting to be picky, just accurate.

Wiki says the D106 is an Ondatra class ship, the equivalent to a USN LCM.

en.wikipedia.org...

Type Landing craft
Displacement 107.3 tons full load
Length 24.5 m (80 ft 5 in)
Beam 5.2 m (17 ft 1 in)
Draught 1.55 m (5 ft 1 in)

small craft.

So now Ukraine has the ability to send grain by sea.

not as long as russia is blockading them they don't. I didn't see any mention of them stopping that. russia has future subs sailing all over the black sea.

calling on them to clear the harbors and waters is just a ploy on russia part. just as soon as they start to try, russia will attack both Ukrainian flagged ships, other countries ships that come to load the grain, and any Ukraine forces that come to clear the mines.

What then was the goal of liberating this island if Russian submarines would still sail around?

Everything is as usual.

The Serpent/Treasure Island was absolutely useless and therefore a fierce battle erupted over it.

I guess that as Russia have been in charge of that area for a while now they would have cleared unwanted hazards to shipping , plus it's funnier if it's one of their own they ran into.

Awesome.
Karma
No one died, meaning no widows get payouts.

And also losing snake island back to Ukraine.
More good news.

Sadly, the actual gesture from Putin was to kill more civilians in their homes. A tantrum.

Totally, just like how the yankees lost the war in Afghanistan, maybe that will happen in Ukraine, they will drive the russians out like that.

The gesturing sucks too, just like how the yankees are all over the place killing civilians.

I am pleased to see that you agree that invading a sovereign nation is a fools errand.
Afghanistan is a teacher of that.

It killed Soviet Union too.
Now Ukraine will kill what is left of this version of Russia.
Which is good.

American ships have hit their own mines in past wars. Mines don't discriminate who they destroy. someone screwed up. The worst thing about mines is that sometimes they are not all removed after wars are over, I wonder if that will happen with this war or conflict or whatever the hell it is.

three quick reasons and possibilities come to mind.

1. it's Ukrainian territory, just like every where else they have fought back in, and liberated.
2. to keep them from setting up some kind of half a@@ antiquated missile battery and miss every thing they fire at and hit civilian targets.
3. to keep russia from mounting helicopter assault and or insertion of troops on the mainland

But the Main reason is number 1

Surprisingly there's no official confirmation from Moscow but reports on Telegram say a Russian landing craft hit a Russian mine near Mariupol , the crew survived but the boat is now on underwater duties.

Read your own words over and over gain until they sink in....

Good.

Now let's wait for Russia to nuke themselves. Now that would be a day for celebration. For humanity, for world peace, for JUSTICE!

It seems all their surface ships have some hitherto unknown capability to become submarines.

May the rest of their fleet be tested for this feature.

Why wouldn't they when Russia is launching missiles at them , seems your estimation of their failure to hit is in itself a failure.

July 3 (Reuters) - At least three people were killed and dozens of residential buildings damaged in the Russian city of Belgorod near the Ukraine border, the regional governor said, after reports of several blasts in the city.

At least 11 apartment buildings and 39 private houses were damaged, including five that were destroyed, Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov posted on the Telegram messaging app.

Hitting apartment buildings and private houses? I suppose those are going to be considered war crimes too...

Maybe be , not a lawyer but I'd assume it depends if they were deliberately targeting those buildings (as seems to be the case with the Russian attack) or firing in hope of hitting something in retaliation.
