Door County is so pretty in the summer. Very very expensive too. With gas over $5 a gallon most places in Wisconsin, and inflation making groceries and going out to eat very pricy, people are just cutting back. They still want to go on vacation somewhere nice, but don't want to spend the money eating out or buying anything. I agree with you on the tourism thing. Door County is make or break depending on what tourist dollars they get every summer. If they don't make enough money in the high season up there, they are pretty much screwed.
I'd love to go up there myself, the hotel rates are in the stratosphere and I cannot afford it at this point.

Typically, lunch and dinner in my small town sees people lined up in the drive-thru all over town and the inside filled up as well. Our restaurants do a lot of business around here, but lately I have noticed a reduction in lines and cars parked on the lot. Folks are starting to tighten their belts and I expect to see a lot more of it as fuel and food prices creep higher and higher. Inflation is the new pandemic...

The hotels were actually really affordable, around $200 for direct lake view, which I thought was very reasonable.
The food was very expensive.
