A man shot and killed two female victims, then killed himself, in a parking lot outside Ames' Cornerstone Church Thursday night, according to police and officials at the church.
"We are grieving deeply," said a statement from Mark Vance, with the Salt Company youth ministry at Cornerstone Church. "Tonight, a tragic shooting occurred involving two young members of our Cornerstone Church community. It is believed that an adult male shot these two victims and then took his own life."
The suspected shooter appeared to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Story County Sheriff Capt. Nicholas Lennie said. The ages of the female victims were not immediately known.
Two college students were shot to death Thursday evening in a church parking lot in Ames, Iowa, police said, before the shooter fatally turned his gun on himself.
The shooting at the Cornerstone Church was the result of a "domestic situation" between the shooter, a 33-year-old man from the city of Boone, and one of the women, said Story County Sheriff Paul Fitzgerald at a news conference Friday.
Both women, ages 22 and 21, were students at nearby Iowa State University, he said.
A third woman escaped unharmed, he said, adding the shooter used a 9mm handgun.
The shooting came the same night President Joe Biden addressed the nationon the need for stricter gun laws. Gun massacres have left the country shaken and prompted new discussions about how to prevent them. The most recent incident was just a day earlier, when a man bought an AR-15 style rifle and attacked an Oklahoma hospital, killing four people and then himself.

Funny we didn't hear about this many shootings in the news a year or so ago.
Oh that's right, it wasn't on the Agenda then.
AMES, Iowa — The man who police say shot and killed two women before killing himself Thursday had been arrested days before on harassment charges in connection to one of the victims, officials said Friday.
Authorities identified the shooter as Johnathan Lee Whitlatch, 33, of Boone, Iowa, who they say confronted three women in the parking lot of Cornerstone Church on Thursday evening, said Story County Sheriff Paul Fitzgerald at a news conference Friday.
Whitlatch shot and killed two women, who were identified as Eden Montang, 22, and Vivian Flores, 21, both students at Iowa State University. One of the women had previously been in a relationship with Whitlatch. The third woman was not injured.
....
The shooter used a 9 mm pistol and authorities later found 9 mm ammunition in his truck along with a receipt of purchase from one hour before the shooting, officials said.
...
About 1,300 students gather to worship at Cornerstone every Thursday night during the school year, according to The Salt Company's website says.

More crackpots killing kids for sport.
What are you posting about? It was a domestic dispute that escalated to shooting. 21 and 22 are not exactly kids.
You are trying to make it sound like a guy just picked two kids to shoot. There was more to the story.
You are being ""manipulated"" by the MSM, The only reason this made national news is the people pushing gun laws wanted it to be there.
