It is far easier for Americans to still think they lead the world in technology, and to do nothing, than to have to catch up.

Right cause New Zealand is just awash in cutting edge tech

You sure love to bust up on America all the time for someone whose country you could see by walking on sheeps backs

I think that NZ generally, for a quite small population, punches above its weight in the science and technology stakes.

You do know we have a commercial space industry here, too, with all our own locally developed technology and manufacture (but as usual, the US has laid claim to it)?

Hell, we can't even get one aporoved here in Tennessee. I'd love it if there was a train from Chattanooga to Clarksville or Memphis to Johnson City.

Given that the USA is incapable of building a few hundred miles of High speed rail should Chinese firms be brought in to build America's rail infrastructure for the 21st century & beyond? They could be required to use American domestically produced chips to control the infrastructure in the name of national security.

in 10 years China has built 40,000 km of high speed rail & nearly have eliminated short haul flights altogether. In 1869 the American transcontinental rail road was completed without technology such as GPS to make sure the two tracks meet with each other to place the Golden Spike, yet fast forward today America can't even complete a few hundred miles of high speed rail after years of construction programs.

the US and Canada for that matter are indeed capable of building high speed rail. in fact both countries have done so, several times. but they have always FAILED. they loose money, meanwhile due to the high price of taking it (even normal rail is typically more expensive than driving, or flying), so most people don't/can't afford to use it.

and before the pandemic, China was loosing billions on their high speed rail (i know because i had looked it up several times when discussing it for North America, back then) even though looking today, they are trying to say "the pandemic, has made them loose billions", with no mention in the first couple pages of search results of previous losses of billions. but then again it is China, where the government controls their media and to a great extent what the world "knows" about things in China. and the liberals and democrats are also in control of media, and even tend to control search results on things like google. so it's no surprise things that go against what they want are hidden.
