Americans like yourself thinks that china only produces low quality garbage like they did 50 years ago. Even our military equipment uses Chinese components.

www.reuters.com...

If China was allowed to import guns into the USA the Domestic Kalashnikov producers would be decimated. American manufactures think that because ak-47s are "cheap" they should get to skimp out of quality while charging to top dollar.

I personally would love to see those 22lr k98s to hit the market again, a k98 clone that's chambered in .223 & uses those stripper clips that people load their ar-15 magazines would be very cool.

If we had an economic need for high speed rail, we'd have high speed rail.

Its not just US citizens , it's basically the world .

Your country maybe .
Here in the US , that would be a CFIUS violation .

We don't have it because people don't want it. Why build something no one will use.

Okay, so you're telling me that goods produced in china are just as good as ones produced everywhere else? If there are newly constructed apartment buildings falling down around the country because they can't even be bothered to make living quarters well, what makes you think the 2$ CE marked thing is going to hold up as well as and perform as well as a 40$ US made one?

The culture of china, except for the blatant (government sponsored) racism that goes on there, is wonderful. That is, what is left of it since the CCP wants it to vanish. The people, well, they have been steered the wrong way for decades, but at least the internet is helping some of them awaken.

There are many good things about ethnic Chinese people, but the government and goods it produces (nearly if not all companies are overseen by the CCP in China) are crap.

No , why not Japan ?
The Chinese use all cheap crap .

Yep look at all these countries that have decent high-speed rail. Turkey for instance.

Mostly though its getting the plan cheap enough, and even then as has been mentioned it's got a good chance of being veto over environmental issues.

Completely wrong take on this topic.

The American public has very little interest in high speed rail so why would any private company waste the money to build one?

Another thing you pointed out is the Chinese rail system that they built in about a decade. Yes they did.. but since the CCP controls everything making that task fairly easy.
No need to purchase land from private owners.
No legal battles from homeowners opposed to a railroad being built next to their house
No EPA in the way to protect some nearly extinct lizards habitat.

Good God we couldn't get a pipeline built because of the red tape.

It is far easier for Americans to still think they lead the world in technology, and to do nothing, than to have to catch up.

You are also forgetting the scale. Europe is just not as big as the US. It is much easier to make a railway system that efficiently takes you where you want to go. We have single states larger than European countries.

Oh I'm gonna have a field day with this drivel. First off Chinese chips are garbage, cheaply made and of no quality. The only reason any US manufacturers use them is they are dirt cheap. I worked building MRI machines and we "used" Chinese and Russian chips. Quality control would reject 70% of them. Brilliant idea using cheap garbage like that.
As for the AK, give me a Romanian or Russian made one any day. Less chance of someone hearing you with those makes. The Chinese versions are again poorly made, their versions really stretch the tolerances of the rifle. Hold one in your hand and shake it, if it rattles like a junk drawer it's either Chinese or Korean manufacture. It's what comes from an unskilled workforce.

OH HELL NO!

We aren't incapable. For all the TRILLIONS thrown at infrastructure in the USA just in the last 10 years, somehow it never seems to make it to what we need to accomplish better 'infrastructure'. Go figure. Corruption is the downfall here.

It's not a question of can the US, the question is why when it's not economical. China has about the same square miles as the US with 4x the population.

The military has a high speed Mag-Lev rail underground. I have seen it. That might be why no one has been able to get one started here publicly. The military one is classified for some reason.

Talking bout the one at Holloman? If so I have no idea why it is either, anyone whose spent any time in that area knows about it and as far as i Know its less than a mile long , so i have no idea why it would be Classified

As to the OP, we wont have Highspeed rail because its not practical here in the US, and it would cost WAY too much to build and not enough people would take it, we see that all over the country with regular trains and subways, except for some places like NY or maybe LA, people just DONT use it.

Dallas/FtWorth area has one and that place is ALWAYS a ghost town, its much faster just to drive or fly

Right cause New Zealand is just awash in cutting edge tech

You sure love to bust up on America all the time for someone whose country you could see by walking on sheeps backs

When the US has all low mileage per charge EV’s that cost so much to own that you would be better off hopping a train and renting an EV at your destination (that returns to base to recharge as a replacement arrives). Then and only then will we have high speed rail for regional travel. Coast to Coast and major vacation and hub destinations will still be by plane.

No matter how high speed a Chicago to NYC is still go8ng to be a faster flight due to stops in Indy, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia and New York.

Close.

America will see high speed rail (probably sub surface) when Americans want high speed rail.

Cars and planes are FAR more convenient, high speed rail is for people in countries (and regions) that can't afford cars and planes and/or are too crowded to use them.

ETA:

There may also be some (...) that refuse to use cars and planes due to irational fears of 'killing the planet'.

I love being able to lay across the seats in those nearly empty trains, please don't tell anyone where the stations are.

maybe the reason musk is playing with his tunneling equipment branch.

look at what
'the big dig " cost in time and money, in boston.

if you could tunnel where you needed or wanted cheaply and quickly, a coast to coast trip could be awesome
