To NASA’s credit (not someone on this forum, and he knows who he is) …..they have had innovation’s.

I have a positive attitude when it comes to NASA in that regard.

Here’s a 50 year spread of achievements ….

50 YEARS OF NASA-DERIVED TECHNOLOGIES (1958-2008)

I’m sure there has been others since then till now.

👽🛸🍺

I started to look at the achievements on the website and page 3 has a blurb that I rage about the subject: the Hubble telescope. Total waste for billion$ of reasons. We never needed it, we're earthbound! Who gives a flying ____ about what outer space bodies look like? We have many superb telescopes that take care of the need. The planets are out there and we know what they look like. What else is needed? How does seeing them ultraclose help us? Who benefits?

I'll go back to the page to find more ammunition.

So -- no actual EVIDENCE to offer on any of the NASA-UFO tales? Shocker.

Don't you consider the efforts by astronauts bothering to film/tape objects in space that they should have ignored because they were either space debris, ice particles, etc.? They bothered and built up a library of visuals we would love to see. Their actions and results are THE ACTUAL EVIDENCE! To lessen them in importance is to suggest you're ignorant. What the hell did Story Musgrave film? It wasn't his imagination nor space debris, ice particles, etc. So, he, a highly-trained intelligent astronaut couldn't tell the difference and in your mind too stupid to have been an astronaut? You both worked for the same agency, where did he go wrong? His word is not good enough for you? You didn't see what he alleges to have seen. Who do we accept as being truthful? You, earthbound or he, spacebound?

Sure, I kind of like NASA. Their contribution to exactly whatever it is I guess makes sense, as little children starve to death on the planet and humans continually jack up the environment and steadily make it impossible to live I guess it makes sense to spend trillions on space pictures and chasing ufos you’ll never get within 1000 miles near to even take pictures of.

I guess it's like folks like Bozos and Musky says:

We can migrate to Mars after we totally f___ up the planet and NASA can lead the way.

Sure...sure

do we have 100000 years?

You're being a little rough on Jim Oberg I feel. He just wants evidence, like a lot of us. You mentioned Story Musgrave. Here's his opinion 👇👍

"I’ve been to the coffee pot, the only astronaut who has stayed for over 30 years listening to everyone’s tales, so I’ve got the data. And there’s just not enough evidence in that data" - Story Musgrave on UFOs 4/20/20 Forbes magazine

BTW, if NASA ‘confirms’ it’s joining search for UFOs, who are they joining? Who, of note, has mentioned that they are searching for UFOs? Someone had to start the search, WHO? Who are they? When did the announce it so that there's a body on record for NASA to join? NASA isn't joining anybody, they're on their own. Did NASA announce how they're going to search? I smell a paper tiger.

What facilities are they going to use? Are they going to train personnel to do what they don't have an iota of knowing how to do? What are going to be the results and are they just goint to file 'em like MUFON, et al is doing? What a dumb agency headed by an ex-astronauit!

Wow…..your on a roll

I laugh in agreement to some of your expressed opinions.

NASA despite, it’s innovations is a literal money pit……perhaps, someone will wise up and point the Hubble down to earth and find actual aliens at Disneyland…..thereby saving taxpayers billions of blood sweat and tears dollars, instead of looking for aliens a zillion light years away.

To quote you again. We've had to endure Oberg's unpopular opinions about UFOs seen from earth and seen from space. He always had his supporters but the majority disagreed with him because Oberg, bright as he is, seems to operate with less than a full mind. In the video below, which I didn't want to embed 'cause it's 43 minutes long, he states his now famous and illogical comments which I've quoted. Then at 27:54 he gives his most illogical explanation for the ST-48 mission. Thruster my butt. In his explanations Oberg doesn't seem to realize that people have logic, common sense and reason. He is insulting. He reminds me of the "experts" that we hear on tv shows such "Pranormal Caught On Camera". They are shown the same videos we see and, for some reason, they miss details that we see yet they are paid for their stupid opiniolns. Oberg is an authority on some space events but he's not an authority on what our eyes see after watching the same videos, his sees the same videos and he comes to different conclusions not based on the visual evidence but on his beliefs.

BTW, to answer your opening comment. Jim and I go back decades of a fantastic internet relationship/friendship. And I tried not to whine but on this thread, on page 2, I joined the conversation with respect towards him. And I got on the nerves on a couple of members whose replies were insulting to Jim. For a reason unknown to me Jim replied to the insulting posters but not to my friendly, respectul replies and I got immaturinly miffed.

James Oberg at 1:01 - "People see things at the limits of their visions and fill in the rest of the details from their imaginations or from their fears."

At 27:54 the STS-48 is included and Oberg gives his now famous and ridiculous thruster explanation and is debunked by physicist Dr Jack Kasher.

Another reason NASA has to attach itself to the present ufomania, and is anxious to share in the publicity light of it.

NASA I'm sure is as conscious of its reputation as any of these permanent USG agencies, therefore must keep up with the Joneses.

It's just the usual gibberish from the hacks devoid of common sense. These people make it a specialty to sound nonsensical. They don't talk to us as we talk to each other. Openness and accountability, sensitive sources and methods, delicate balance, public trust. So much bs. They want to search for UFOs? Just go outside and stare at the day and night sky like the rest of us do and cross your fingers 'cause it's going to be a long time before they see something unusual that's not your average planes, helicopters, blimps, etc. And then after you have a real sighting, what are you going to do, what's your next step. They would be better off and it would be cheaper if these fools were to watch UFO, etc., videos on "Paranormal Caught On Camera". Their work has been done for them and they could repeat the usual video mantra: "What is that!?

Has James O'berg ever talked about Operation Paperclip? I wonder what he thinks about that...

I came to the conclusion a year or two ago that a possible reason for the UFO/Alien cover up since the 40's has been to protect the white supremacy power structure that's been a part of the US since the beginning. If Americans and eventually the rest of the world found out God-Like benevolent aliens exist people would fall in love with these higher beings, worship and praise them, etc....this would be a huge threat to the white supremacy power structure.

Long story short I wonder if the white nationalism and white supremacy ideology of the Nazi's played a massively significant role in the background of starting NASA. Which would be NASA covering up anything alien to protect white supremacy and white nationalism propaganda.

This might be a topic for a separate thread but I thought it was kinda relevant.

Oh, the wa$te!

What will NASA learn about UFOs? Bupkis.

What will Americans/World benefit from NASA's "effort" from their sure-to-fail attempt? Bupkis/

For those of you that are not familiar with the word "bupkis", it is Yiddish and translates to: ""Bupkis" means "nothing" or "something of no worth,"

It is no secret how I feel about NASA and, fortunately, some of you share my opinion. I just got through watching a tv documentary on PBS (Ch. 13, NYC) NOVA, titled "Touching the Asteroid". A spacecraft called OSIRIS-REx was sent to attempt to grab a piece of an asteroid to bring back to Earth so scientists can study it to learn about the planet's origins. I didn't know an asteroid was a planet. Do you? The spacecraft did not land but extended an arm that had a collection mechanism to "suck" up dust.

Now, I ask you, how does a single individual let alone almost 330 million Americans benefit from this mission? How does this dust help a family whose home was destroyed by a tornado/hurricane/earthquake? How does NASA explain to these people whose lives were destroyed leaving them destitute; does NASA visit the families and tell them, hey, we're sorry about your situation but your hard-earned tax dollars allowed us to have some fun in our control room. Do you want to see how joyful everybody became when we saw the spacecraft pick up the dust, we were hilarious as shown on tv. Oh, that's right you no longer have a tv.

I got curious and Googled the mission to see how much legal crime cost us, here are the results.
planetary.org

$1.16 billion
The OSIRIS-REx mission is expected to cost $1.16 billion. $588.5 million was spent on spacecraft development and $183.5 million on its launch vehicle. Nine years of prime mission operations are expected to cost approximately $283 million.

Who owns OSIRIS-REx?
www.lockheedmartin.com...
Designed and built by Lockheed Martin, NASA's OSIRIS-REx began its journey to Bennu on Sept. 8, 2016. OSIRIS-REx's science team is led by the University of Arizona and its mission management is handled by NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center.

Where is OSIRIS-REx now?
www.asteroidmission.org...
OSIRIS-REx remains in a frozen, safe-home orbit around Bennu, and the spacecraft is flying approximately 900 meters above the asteroid's surface. Today, OSIRIS-REx celebrates four years since launch.

Now, look at the faces of those afflicted by a tornado as they sift through the remains of what once was their home and what hell they're gonna have to go through to get financial aid to either rebuild or move or...

So what has NASA given us for the trillions of dollars wasted on useless missions? Bupkis.

James is a highly-educated person. It is a given that since Wernher von Braun was brought to the U.S. and eventually was absorbed by what is now NASA that Oberg studied the history. But unless there was a need for this publicly available history, why should he bother? Even if it was to offer his opinion, it's a done deal. If James had spoken with von Braun and broached the subject it would probably not be about UFOs/aliens although we might probably never know. There has never been a UFO/Alien cover up 'cause in order to cover up something you have to know what that something is and no one knew anything more than what was reported. This has always been the mantra of conspirationist thinking.

Wernher von Braun and Operation Paperclip

Variouss Google sources

What was the point of Operation Paperclip?
Image result for operation paperclip book
In the fall of 1944, the United States and its allies launched a secret mission code-named Operation Paperclip. The aim was to find and preserve German weapons, including biological and chemical agents, but American scientific intelligence officers quickly realized the weapons themselves were not enough.

When was Operation Paperclip revealed to the public?
The journalist Annie Jacobsen's “Operation Paperclip” is not the first unveiling of the program. The New York Times, Newsweek and other media outlets exposed Paperclip as early as December 1946.

How did Operation Paperclip end?
Several of the Paperclip scientists were later investigated because of their links with the Nazi Party during the war. Only one Paperclip scientist, Georg Rickhey, was formally tried for any crime, and no Paperclip scientist was found guilty of any crime, in America or Germany.

I’ve railed about the high cost of anything past our atmosphere in previous threads.

It boils down to….justifying a career and a paycheck. To keep the machine oiled, so one could live a modest life with some prestige and power peppered in.

Frankly, the waisting of taxpayers dollars, is beyond our control.

All we have is our concerns and complaints.

One might say….well I’m going to get into politics……when the reality, once your in, your in lockstep with the powers that be…..and all those good hearted campaign promises that were made, disintegrates. You either follow the program, or be shunned.

NASA and other Astronomical disciplines have to justify their livelihoods…..plain an simple.

It’s just the way it is…..and it sucks and blows at the same time.

The counter argument to your post will be to cherry pick random missions that created machines that we use in hospitals used to save people's lives, or machines that are used in business like a xerox machine or something. I know there's a list if you Google search. Also how most technology is small comes from space travel. But I totally agree with you. There's a lot more missions that don't introduce new technology or machines to society.

Our missions into space are costly, dangerous and for the most part boring. I know boring/exciting is subjective, but c'mon, we all have to agree most ordinary people think the missions are boring. Only going to the Moon got the world's attention. That's an event everyone alive to this day remembers where they were when it happened.
