Muh Amazon Shopping List (I save anything interesting) has a lot of products listed as “Unavailable” since the supply chain disruptions. A specialized wrench I ordered on Amazon had to come from China because they had not shipped a couple containers to AliExpress yet for US business to buy and then markup on Amazon Marketplace yet.

For those that are unsure how Amazon works is that Chinese factories produce a widget. They sell it on Alibaba at sometimes wholesale but generally volume pricing or just sample pricing if it is a limited run. American businesses buy. If sales are good or the product looks promising, AliExpress will also buy a container for shorter delivery times and sell at sample pricing to smaller US businesses and individuals that cannot take advantage of volume pricing. These are the items that go on Amazon Marketplace. Amazon watches those sales (or if the product is really promising and the factory can crank them out) to buy in bulk for direct Amazon distribution.

If I was Taiwan I would have every single bit of semiconductor infrastructure set up to go boom when china comes knocking.

They will come knocking since their population is staring down a fairly sharp decline over the next 50+ years with a strong economy if that real estate bubble finally pops it could be worse.

China invading Taiwan. WITH WHAT? China could shell and bomb Taiwan back to the Stone Age, but they don't have the force projection capability to do an invasion and sustain it. Four or five fast attack subs could make short work of any invasion fleet. An airborne attack couldn't get enough firepower on the ground to sustain an invasion.

Remember the Ukraine wasn't supposed to last a week against the Russians.

While I certainly don’t admire or condone authoritarian China and support the right of Taiwan to be a democratically self-governed sovereign nation - what would there be to gain from this?

Then there’s the logistics as 727Sky has alluded to. With the proximity of Taiwan to the Chinese mainland they have a supreme advantage in terms of supply lines, controlling the air, the sea, land based missile launches and the rest.

When China bloodies Americas nose there they will be further emboldened to ratchet up the pressure on Australia. Oh, and as of recently they have a new extension of the existing arrangement in the Solomon Islands....roughly 2000km’s from our coastline where they promised they absolutely, totally, definitely won’t build any military or naval bases.

What's our love for Taiwan? Did they help us fight off Germany or something? I never know (or want to know) about U.S. history as it related to other nations until its required reading, lol.

they are so important to the modern world right now that a defense is a must if you like your electronic stuff.

We are still a few years away from the startups producing it state side so we must defend, part of the reason Japan has said the self defense force will move to assist taiwan as well.
