Without delving too far into the distant past, which was full of eschatological prognosticators, I will limit the purview of this post to the 19th, 20th, and 21st centuries.

My observation is as follows:

The 19th Century was filled with various nascent sects of (mostly) protestant Christianity claiming to have knowledge that the world was soon ending by the hand of the Almighty. They predicted dates and outcomes and specific events.

Some of the groups of proselytizers that we all know today were born from this supposed great awakening. Christian Scientists, Seventh Day Adventists, Jehovah's Witnesses, to name just a few. Even main stream evangelicals have their fair share of predictions of the End Times being imminent and judgement at hand. People were told there was no turning back, if we don't something now it's too late.

The doom was disseminated and used as a recruiting tool. But the dates that were predicted came and passed, without the promised end that galvanized so many congregations. The failed predictions humbled those who claimed access to divine reasoning.

Many sects disbanded, others went on to produce the Jackson 5 .

Fast forward a hundred or so years, we are told by the Climate Change Clergy that the world is reaching a point of no return. If we don't do something about about we will all be living in a post apocalyptic world brought on by the great evil of fossil fuels.

Gloom and doom. Some vaguely defined group of concerned climate prophets claims every year that we have reached a critical juncture and if we dont do what they say, New York City will be Venice in 2030.

Every show even topically mentioning the natural world has to insert some sort of climate change opinion.

At the beginning of the Obama years, the NPS had signs put up at Glacier National Park saying the glaciers would be gone by 2020, due to global warming. Our glaciers are still with us and the sign had to be taken down.

Seems like we went from "Someone's version of God will destroy the world" to "Man will destroy the World".

Both groups have their self styled "prophets" and zealous believers. Most "scientists" can take a sabbatical from their research, which conveniently and linguistically parallels the Sabbath.

The similarities between today's climate scientists and yesterday's Christian Doomsday prophets run deep. I think the irony is that neither group can recognize themselves in the other.

I am in no way denying that our collective appetites as a species need to be less like a horde of locust. We need to adjust all of our appetites, not just our hunger for oil.

We should appreciate and treat our planet like a home and not a host for resource extraction.

However, the doomsday christian sects of the 19th and early 20th century are mirrored by the doomsday scientism and it's "climate prophets"
of the 21st.

Even if humans end, it’s not the end of the world.

Life and the world will go on.

Fair enough, but the post was meant more to highlight the hyperbole and poor results when humans attempt to predict the outcomes of things they don't fully understand. And how those making the predictions are more similar than they are aware of.

I've used your argument myself when discussing and thinking about these things, but Ive personally found that it can lead to pessimism masking as pragmatism in the way I approach the issue.

Without Humans all life on this planet will die - We have created to many things like Nuclear power plants that require humans to man and keep safe .

Entertainment needs a hook. Without some representation of potential calamity, there would be little interest.

Such shows have less to do with science and more to do with revenue generation or political manipulation.

And yes, the humanity haters are precisely like a religious cult, and the politicians or business interests who use them are charlatans seeking political power or wealth.

Meanwhile, despite the billions spent on the climate change campaign, no one seems to give a s*** about the obvious trash that each year increasingly liters the sides of our roads, parks and waterways.

I'm not so sure. It seems that Chernobyl and Fukushima demonstrated that nature is far more resilient than we believe.

Very true, it's the consumption of the entertainment that is sort of a transaction between me and the people behind the television show or film. I chose to watch and could have probably determined the political opinions of it's writers by doing a little footwork.

I personally enjoy nature documentaries when I can't be out of doors myself, so it's a personal issue on that front.

Hahahahaah It annoys me, full disclosure, when a show about mountain ecology contains a gratuitous climate change tagline.

Pretty sure there are mushrooms growing inside Chernobyl-
mammals as we are might not make it, but it'll take more than a few nuke plants to stop life on this fertile rock.

Sometimes great threads go largely unnoticed.

Mainly because we are still outnumbered by the lie-to-me-harder-daddy demographic.

Who knows? But just for laughs, let's see...White horse of Revelation given a bow, symbol of disease(Apollo shooting disease as arrows in Greek mythology as example)and a crown.Corona happens to be a crown diseases and conquered big time .Second Horse is red, socialism, communism, and takes peace from the world.Third horse is famine and food shortages....gee,what are we hearing about that Of course the pale horse and death with hell following would be Antichrist Ah yes, great Reset,no buying or selling unless you have the one world banks chip.Thats a LOT of coincidence all coming around.Happily there's also no Jewish temple so the Antichrist doesn't have the place to proclaim himself God.so maybe it's really just coincidence after all.

And yet the Bible warns us not to credit either one.

Which is what you are doing here.

Don't count on the end of the world coming and go crazy with your credit cards and buy expensive things you do not need....You will find yourself in a royal mess and lose everything. I think that making people go out and spend their money they have not yet earned will be beneficial for the banks and bring up the economy to make things look like they won't live long enough to pay it back. Sure, go out and have some fun...it does not really cost much to have fun if you do not listen to the people who profit from it excessively.

I made twenty three pasties today and it was work, but it was also fun. Sent six over to one daughter, the other daughter came over and ate a few and took three home. Plus three were also delivered to the granddaughter. We ate and we have enough for lunch tomorrow and three in the freezer to eat for a supper some day...just toss them into the oven for forty minutes. Now twenty one meals for thirty bucks makes me feel like I did something good. I also fed the deer multiple times, those two deer at about as much potatoes and carrots as in all those twenty three pasties. They hung around all day and ate....That cost me another three bucks for deer food.

It was a treat, I made two pots of Chicken soup to feed my kids and grandkids this last week too, the daughter decided to take the kids to a water park at a hotel and two pots of soup later they are finally getting better. A big pot of Chicken soup and homemade rolls costs about eight dollars, it feeds around eight people. Both the soup and pasties are a lot of work, but it gives me satisfaction to make a full healthy and good tasing meal for about a buck and thirty per person. I could do it cheaper, but I use a lot of organic ingredients.

We do not need to spend a lot of money to have fun...but the ratrace wants us to believe we do. Making us believe that everything is going to get bad only makes people feel they want to go out and blow money to have fun. This is how consumerism works. Remember, this is not a new thing, it has been going on for many decades.

If the world ends for humans, it won't matter how much in debt you are. But if it doesn't, which is the most likely scenario, we become slaves to our debt holders. Even bankruptcy does not protect you like it used to, they can stick leans on things you own now...so beware of this.....don't even think that the end is going to come and look towards your future.

Same tendency. Scripture redefined as long term climate projections. Same old horde looking to save mankind through carbon offsets instead of converting souls.

That said...

I'll give a crap about my carbon footprint as soon as a carbon influenced climate change model explains why Antarctica is gaining 7300 square miles of sea ice a year. Carbon isn't supposed to effect only one hemisphere, is it?

I know if a huge volcano goes off in the Southern Hemisphere the Northern Hemisphere experiences more SO2 cooling, but shouldn't CO2 from the Northern be warming the Southern and Northern?

So no, it isn't the climactic or climatic end.

The entire human history of warming CO2 emmissions can be offset by one Lake Taupo eruption.

One eruption 26500 year ago released 1,170 km3 (280 cu mi) of total deposits.

Luckily it occured right before a glacial maximum 26,000-19,000 years ago.

This point is so true... they really have turned it into a faith rather than a science, and they allow emotions instead of logic to dictate their beliefs and actions. I see radical activists rather than people of science, trying to recruit as many people as possible into their faith using fearmongering methods and manipulative statistics. And you're right, it's very funny how they so often fail to see that mentality in themselves.

Not following here.

If you are making the claim that I am violating your interpretation of the Hebrew or Greek scriptures, please provide evidence.

Please don't cherry pick and use the verse or verses in the correct context.

What do you mean by "credit either one"?

"But Is It Really The End Of The World This Time ?"

Maybe its not the beginning of the end but simply the end of the beginning?

We can have a new golden age or the next world war.

I know which one i would choose.

Need to stop fighting with one another over imaginary lines on maps and put aside our petty differences if we wish the former as opposed to the later.

I like to cook for my family as well. Although I am still trying to get my two youngest to eat something other than blue berries and grilled cheese. The chicken soup sounds delicious.
