Some had claimed here that the west, US, UK are fighting over Ukraine for their freedom. Now you have a former president demanding for more censorship on the First Amendment.

He described himself as “pretty close to a First Amendment absolutist” but immediately clarified that it did not apply to social media companies.

Obama complained that flood of information made it difficult to discern the truth. I suppose like the truth how the Obama admin had ruined Libya with the Libyan intervention.

Complains how people are being misled over the covid vaccination.
This comes as Elon Musk is about to take over twitter.

Well, he did do more to persecute journelists than any other president in American history.

So it sounds pretty much par for the course.

Obama did say publicly in 2011 that he wished the USA were more like China, that as President of a Chinese style nation he would be better able to change things to the way he thought they should be.

So this goes along with wanting strong journalistic and strong social media censorship. China not only doesn't believe in freedom of speech, they jail and "disappear" those who dare to say something that the political party in power doesn't like.

The Democratic Party does not believe in freedom of speech unless it is their speech and they approve of the speech. They call ALL other speech misinformation and say it should be made illegal.

Facebook and Twitter are privately owned companies. They absolutely have the right to censor content they feel is inappropriate. It is right there in their TOS, which you have to agree to, when you join.

Same when you walk into many stores, they have signs that say "we reserve the right to refuse service to anyone" or "no shoes no shirt no service".

If you don't agree with TOS, the only thing I can suggest is don't use it. I have been in "Twitter jail" a few times(temporarily suspended). Here is their TOS.

That is an excuse that those companies like twitter are using.

They absolutely have the right to censor content they feel is inappropriate.

If they moved their offices of a country that has a constitution and first constitution and amendment companies should follow it. Just like Disney.

If Disney doesn't like the law or the bill they are free to move to a location where they can make as much political content as they wish.

That would be because the past 2 term President is correct and based on this post it would seem like you don't know what the First Ammendment protects from and what it doesn't.

Some great examples of things the 1st Ammendment does not include would be Facebook and Twitter.

Social media is an industry essentially devoid of government regulations. So how can the 1st Amendment be invoked when the government has no hand in how social media operates?

Freedom of speech is more than an amendment. It is a principle that we should try to uphold. Even on here, there are some things that are not free speech compatible. No cussing attacking others however it abides by the principle, the spirit. It is something we should strive for not against on such platforms.

Obama is right.

Twitter and Facebook are not under the control of the government.

Cue the Republicans wanting to regulate it. They have this need to socialize our private companies.
