No they were killing their own people...well technically after the referendums they were killing citizens from separatist regions.

Not after they held a referendum to separate from Ukraine's new nationalist government...
I understand Ukraine may not seen it that way but I assure you the people who live there and voted to separate so not see it as Ukraine anymore...and that's what matters most...the ones who live there don't want to be a part of the new Ukraine.

Thats a very misinformed opinion...I guess we will see what the borders look like when the dust settles... Will the voice of the people be heard or will their wish for independence be trampled by the nationalists who outlawed their majority language and sent nazi thugs to intimidate and kill them.

Also if you are of that opinion then you should be of the opinion the coup was illegal and therefore so is the current government.

Based on his troop deployments, Putin has no intention of holding Ukraine.
Maybe that's the case now, but I'm not sure that was the limit of his intentions at the outset of this invasion.
He seems to want to annex several key areas which have a pro-Moscow ethnic Russian majority,.....
That's a bit of popular misconception.
In both Luhansk and Donetsk Oblast's ethnic Russian's are a very large MINORITY comprising around 38-39% of the population.
Ethnic Ukrainians are still the largest ethnic group.
And not all the Russians support Putin or wish to become part of some new Greater Russian Empire.
....and then to force the Ukrainian government to sue for peace under an unequal treaty that would let him rule the annexed territory, while the rest of Ukraine was a self governing demilitarized state.
That's certainly a possibility.
It'd be a bit of a face saver for Putin.
In short, he doesn't want Ukraine, only parts of it.
Personally I think deep down Putin has his eyes on Ukraine and more....the realities of achieving that may prove a little harder than he first thought.
