House Republicans introduced the “American Independence from Russian Energy Act” on Feb. 28, a measure meant to authorize the Keystone XL pipeline, boost domestic oil and gas production, and prevent President Joe Biden’s executive branch agencies from halting energy leasing on federal land and water, among other provisions.

This legislation was introduced by Ted Cruz on the 28th of February and "shot down in a 221–202 vote" by democrats and one Republican, Matt Gaetz, on March 1.

The excuse given by democrats...

Rep. Jim McGovern (D-Mass.) said Republicans “talk about energy independence, yet … are the ones who have consistently voted against and opposed green and renewable energy here at home, which is the fastest way to achieve real energy independence.”

The fastest way to energy independence? No, the fastest way is to open that pipeline and use what we have at our disposal and introduce renewable energies that are feasible and make sense financially and ecologically in the long term.

The president of the Western Energy Alliance said in response to the vote...

Democrats blocking the Act yesterday from even being considered demonstrates how unserious they are about truly addressing the crisis in Ukraine...
We have the energy resources to starve Putin of revenue and lower prices for Americans if the president would just take action within his power now. For example, the government is holding up hundreds of federal permits in the Permian Basin, America’s most prolific oil region. Most are ready to go but are being held up for more climate change analysis.

Seems to me the democrats are quite willing to help Russia all they can. They couldn't do much more, or could they?

U.S. crude oil imports from Russia more than doubled in 2021, rising to an average of 209,000 barrels per day from a daily average of roughly 76,000 per day barrels in 2020...

I have to wonder, has the Biden administration known this invasion was coming and when, all along? Maybe this article is closer to the truth than many would care to admit.

It is almost like they are paid for by some foreign power, the identity of which we can only speculate, and are acting against our own domestic best interests.

Who benefits from this?

It isn't the US citizen ... it isn't Canada ... ... ... ?? China ??

Democrats show unity when it comes to damaging America. More than ever, its obvious these traitors are doing the bidding of U.S. enemies. I'm sure the #1 lead-traitor (Joe Biden) agreed with keeping our oil/gas/food prices soaring ever higher.

Who benefits from this?

Democrat politicians for one...

An expose by the Washington Times indicates that many left-wing Democrats — who advocate aggressive measures to deal with climate change — have sold their interests in renewable energy sources and switched their investments to profit from high returns in fossil fuel investments during the past few weeks.

You'd expect them to do this in 2020, in order to ruin Trump's re-election chances, just like they did using the ginned-up Covid recession.

But Democrats are shooting themselves and their leader (Biden) in the foot and in the azz with their Inflation-enhancing actions.

That is the perfect word to describe them….Traitors to the American people.
Dems have never done anything to help this country, only damage it.
The closest gas station to my house has $3.89 on the sign, when just 2-3 weeks ago, it was $3.19.
The Dems want this country destroyed.

Yes. Exactly.

Doesn't this kinda contradict the whole 'Buy American' rule they're pushing?

President Joe Biden on Friday announced his administration finalized a new Buy American rule aimed at helping to boost US domestic manufacturing, an increasingly important effort as the country strives to compete with China and create more resilient domestic supply chains.

The Buy American rule change, which was first announced in July 2021, will require any goods purchased with taxpayer money to contain 75% US-made content, up from the current 55% requirement.

And I will not stop saying that democrats hate America and the American citizens, they love anything that hurt the hard-working taxpayer.

Illegals and communist countries.

Have you got enough of the democrats yet?

From your link:
“Asia’s largest consumer of energy, China, is right next to Asia’s largest producer, Russia. They are building bridges to one another that could well imperil the free world."

221 of our 'best' representatives voted for us to keep importing 209,000 barrels of oil a day from Russia.??? I wonder why Russia hasn't turned the pipelines off yet; I'm sure China would be more than happy to buy it all.

Biden clearly is not a friend to Canada. He'd rather get the oil from Russia, Syria, Saudi, Iran -- anywhere else but from Canada.

Obama Admin #2

Remember those famous words?

“Under my plan … electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket.”

“If somebody wants to build a coal-fired power plant, they can. It’s just that it will bankrupt them,” Obama said, responding to a question about his cap-and-trade plan. He later added, “Under my plan … electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket.”

Energy Secretary Steven Chu’s famed call to “figure out how to boost the price of gasoline to the levels in Europe” —

When he campaigned, he said he wanted to raise the price of gasoline. He said that under him, energy costs would skyrocket. And then he brought in a trio of people to help him implement those policies,”
