That plant was effectively disabled when it melted down in 1986. It has been offline, in slow burn, and uninhabitable ever since. A shell was built around it to contain radiation while work was done to limit radiation leaking. That shell began to deteriorate and a second larger shell was built around the first to further contain the radiation allowing the first shell and parts of the reactor to be removed safely. Cleanup is scheduled to end in 2065.

Shelling is an Artillery term mate as in dropping artillery shells on the plant , i don't mean literally building a shell around it but none the less interesting information .

You may not have meant that, but they did. They actually built a shell around the plant. They called it a sarcophagus. Not an artillery term to the best of my knowledge. Then they built a second when the radiation began eating away at the first.

Sounds like he is referring to Chernobyl

I get that but this whole post has nothing to do with Chernobyl, it's another Nuclear plant entirely .

I know, maybe Vroom has confused the 2

Anyway, never a good thing when shells or rockets hit within 10 miles of a reactor, never mind a storage shed or admin building, on the facility.

I doubt very much they equivalent of your or I in Ukraine wants to be ruled by any foreign country. I bet you wouldn't I know I wouldn't...

They should take a page from others who don't have the ability to fight off their neighbors and stay neutral. Picking sides in a power and politics game when you don't have the power to back up your moves is asking for trouble. Setting up puppet governments is too something russia and us have been doing for decades.

The only people I feel sorry for are they regular joes like us from both sides who got no voice in the matter and are the ones to pay the price for others games.

Question I was thinking about.

Would the purposeful targeting of the plant in order to cause a reaction be considered a nuclear attack and have the world respond?

Nuclear war without dropping nukes. I suppose if there is a reaction then they’ll be a reaction to Russia from military’s around the world.

ETA: In the spirit of conspiracy, it very will could be Ukrainians targeting own plant for international boots on the ground. Though I believe it’s Russia. They have embarrassed themselves. High-Tec elite military my ass. They proven they have no logistical coordination and can’t operate in sync on multiple fronts as in ground and air coordination. They are trying to end it quickly.

I don’t buy in to the Russian propaganda sweeping ATS. Yes, civilians are being used as human shields. Name a war they haven’t? Makes Ukraine bad guy how? Being an American puppet makes it ok to invade? So when all the other American puppet states are invaded it’s ok? I can name a few BIG countries lots of our members hail from that fall in line when we tell them too…would you same the same thing as a victim? I digress.

Russia is still the bad guy. “Ohh they are a threat” is not an excuse to invade a country. Russia been a threat to the US. In your reasoning. Let’s #ing invade.

It might be viewed like that...however having a radioactive fountain on their doorstep isn't a thing any one in russia wants...very doubtful anyone would want to cause that.

From what I have seen from the live feed from that plant the only attacking took place at a cluster if admin buildings removed from the actual reactor area. I didn't see any shelling but a russian did dismount and fire and RPG at an office building.

Thanks for your response. Yeah I can see Russia not wanting that on their doorstep. Extreme times, extreme measures though.

I do believe most of these Russian tanks how thermal imagining. Kind of hard to miss the nuclear block through thermals huh?

The MSM is hyping this up like nobody's business! The fire is in an admin building, not one of the reactors.

Just a bunch of desperados trying to hype up the whole ... "Let's go to WAR!"...thing!

Media pukes should be taken out and shot, and then strung up to rot in the sun, on the nearest light pole!

Nothing! Nothing would be a crecible reasong to target a nuke plant! It doesn't benefit Putin or anyone else. He'd just wind up with another Chernobyl in his lap to clean up.

I'm sure Puting is tracking down the senior officer who allowed this to happen and is going to cut his balls off as soon as he finds him!!

ETA - There's a hell of a lot better ways to cut off the power!!

Is it the medias fault or their sources fault though? Or their handlers? I mean I would hope they would know the difference between an admin building and the plant. I hate sensationalism

I haven’t had time to look at any feeds since at work or watch any physical news so don’t know what anything looks like. Just what I’ve read.

The wife turned on some Hannity earlier (I don't watch TV myself, not intentionally) and they had no less than two people on the ground in Ukraine saying it was an admin building, and when the cameras cut back to Hannity he was still blathering on about the Russians targeting a nuke plant. Then FOX finally got some talking head on the box who would agree with him and started all the scare mongering all over again. On FOX no less!

I used to like Hannity, but now FOX is really no different from the rest of the media whores. Don Henley's "Dirty Laundry" comes to mind every time I see any so-called "news" anymore. It's ALL garbage, all to make a buck!

The Media blames the fires on Russian Shelling.
Videos on twitter i saw it was a RPG flying directly toward the admin building near Russian forces.

Ukraine emergency services say fire has been extinguished at Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant following Russian shelling

The images here in the UK used for "shelling" show what looks like lume rounds dropping into a car park. However the reports state "sustained shelling"
Images are in the night time, perhaps more will be visible at sunrise.

Imo, I think the honest news report would say;

Russians open fire on nuclear power plant administration buildings. Soecifically targeted, is this a warning from pootin?

There, there's even some hyperbole at the end.

They want as many people as possible to think the reactor itself was targeted, (in not so many words of course).

So frustrating 😒

From the video that I saw it looked to me like a parachute flare / mortar flare coming down that started it.

It was coming straight down at very low rate of speed.

Yes Chernobyl mate , but that is not the Nuclear plant in question.

it was surreal to watch live to 5AM and go to work after two hours of semi sleep.
You guys think you are far away but this would be bad AF. I was seriously expecting NATO jets flying to stop the attack. The fact that they didnt is actually concerning
