What would happen if Russia joined NATO? If they really are just afraid of hostile countries on their borders, wouldn’t this fix that problem?

NATO wouldn't let Putin invade countries on a whim so he picked up his ball and ran home.

You have to remember we were allied in WWII. At the end, westerners like General Patton were calling for immediate military action against Russia as they "were our ennemies".

Then followed the cold war and here we are.

President Putin petitioned Madeline Albright…Slick Willys Sec of state to join nato and was rebuffed…

Prior to that in 1954 the USSR wanted to join nato…and was rebuffed then as well…

For a group to be in power over their people, there must be an us and a them. Without a them to be the enemy of us, why would the people want to let those in power have any power?

This applies to artificially created race problems within countries all the way to them that live on the other side of the world and look different. Always us and them.

Mate the whole Point of NATO is to counter countries like Russia and China , and you think they would join ?

Do you actually know why NATO was set up? It was set up to counter Russian expansion into Europe. AND that don't include Ukraine. NATO is a defence organisation NOT an aggressive organisation. If any NATO country is attacked the rest comes to it's aid.
But it don't go to any puppet dictators aid (that's not in NATO) when he pokes the bear and it attacks him.

Putin says he asked Bill Clinton if Russia could join NATO, but Clinton would not entertain the idea.

Russia was actually interested in joining NATO at one point but they wanted special privileges over other member nations. So when they were told that's not how things work it all kind of fell apart.

They were however part of NATO's Partnership for Peace program at one point.

MSM is showing pictures of Russian streets filled with thousands of citizens protesting the invasion of Ukraine. RT has been blocked as a news source, so we're no longer able to learn their public sentiment.
