Probably because he's near the airport and can see it. It's sitting out in the open on the ramp.

I'm pretty sure he's not going to try to get close enough to take pictures of it just to satisfy people on the internet, considering the fighting has been pretty intense in the area.

Why wouldn't he say? It's not like it's a major strategic asset.

Again, would you try to go close to where they were fighting to take pictures to satisfy some people on the internet?

They didn't fly it out, because it's probably in maintenance, and couldn't be flown. It's pretty maintenance intensive.

Maintenance problem is excellent point.

I was assuming that it was fueled and able to fly, but that was based on the escape attempt report which may not be accurate.

Do forget about the normal flight hours and maintenance. It doesn't have to be broken, that's a lot of parts to grease up and inspect.

Fair enough though. You are right... the aircraft may or may not exist.

It's Schrödinger's Antonov.

Ghost of Kyiv: unconfirmed Ukrainian MiG-29 pilot credited with six kills

I don't know if this is accurate or not. But There's stories of a ukrainian pilot with 6 kills against russian aircraft. It's probably exaggerated but interesting nonetheless.

host of Kyiv awarded Ace status online
According to one, much-shared post, the Ghost of Kyiv has downed two SU-35s, one SU-27, one MIG-29 and two SU-25s.

What you are referring to is the Khibny jammer

Which disabled the electronics on USS Donald Cook as three SU24 buzzed the warship in 2016

He’s talking about the transponder. Why would they have a jammer on when transiting through civilian airspace?

Rivet Joint and Combat Sent have been there since before the invasion. They show up at the start of their flight, then drop off not long after. Rivet Joint is usually JAKE and Combat Sent is HOMER.

They’re staging out of the UK. They’ve been there a couple weeks now. Routine Bomber Task Force deployment that happens around this time every year.

Thanks, last time I saw them together was probably the day after the initial invasion. They were way up in Poland, and were out from the U.K. that day.

There's usually one BTF around Feb or March, and one around June or Julyish. They operate out of Fairford, but sometimes move around. These guys have landed in Czechoslovakia late in February and did quick turn training with the Czech military. They spent a lot of time around Poland and Romania before the Ukraine invasion. They've previously worked with the RC guys on intelligence gathering missions, acting as targets while the RC sucked up all kinds of intelligence data.
