So I was checking out adsbexchange to see what the airspace around Ukraine was like. And Military wise there are several tankers up in the air just flying circles. I can imagine they are there refueling other aircraft. Possibly ISR. And not just US Military. UK also has a tanker circling about. And earlier I noticed that Luxembourg had an AWACS circling near Ukraine.

And above the Ukraine nothing is flying at the moment. Totally clear of any aircraft.

I guess we can make this a watch thread and keep a look out for interesting aircraft near the fighting.

I'm sure there's plenty flying above the Ukraine, you just aren't allowed to view it.

Oh for sure. There's probably a ton of stealth aircraft buzzing around right now gathering intel. I counted 6 tankers earlier 4 US and 2 UK. Those guys are busy.

A link would be useful...

I read earlier that the Russians just turn off something in their jets so fkight tracking does not show them. I don't have any know how on hownall that works, but Russian jets and helicopters have definitely been up in that sky all day.

Perhaps it's a typical active war setting, so nobody knows where anyone is??

Is called a transponder. It interacts with other aircraft and ATC for traffic info and avoidance, friend or foe in the military. Pull the circuit breaker or turn the knob to off. Easy easy.

Not just Russia, all military aircraft have this can't have the upper hadn when you're able to be tracked by OSINT platforms like ADS-B, flightradar24 and the like.

As far as I'm aware, they're required to be on when transiting through civilian airspace but when they get to the designated operating area they 'go dark' and turn off transponders etc. Have a look at the B2's penetration mode for a beefed up version of this.

What kind of aircraft is the ”Viper41” amongst the tankers? I guess it’s just a regular F-16?

Call sign. Could be a F-16 or a Cessna birdog.

It would be impressive if a bird dog did 450kn like this airplane is doing 😄

Edit: it just finished the refueling now and broke away from the tanker, lets see where its heading

Edit: posting pictures never works for me, anyone took a better screenshot?

Lifted off from Venice, refueled by the KC-135 north of Cluj-Napoca close to the south western Ukranian border in Rumania, then headed back west towards Venice for 5 minutes before turning off its transponder. Odd mission, don’t know what the purposevof that was

will media people be flying drones over the battlefield?
will correspondents fly helos over country?
will the USA share satellite images with Ukraine?
could US / NATO hackers interfere wi Russian systems?

uncharted waters. could be interesting.

Please let us know right away if you see the AN-225 airborne.

Ukraine claims it was destroyed on the ground.

It’s an F-16 out of Aviano. Two went into Poland. There’s a buildup going on around Ukraine. Several of the F-35s from Hill went from Germany to nations closer to Ukraine. Several F-35s from other European operators have deployed as well.

How would he know?

Why would he say?

Why didn't he provide any kind of evidence?

And why didn't they fly it out of harm's way if this is true?

Either side.

I really appreciate the effort, but when under the fog we need eyes-on evidence, and this isn't it.

Something (many things) still doesn't add up about anybody's 225 claims over there.

Since nobody is willing to provide evidence for those claims (russians and ukrainians, not anyone here), I have to assume the beast doesn't exist anymore.

Still hope I'm wrong though.
