What does it mean to be genetically Jewish?😲

DNA tests have been used in Israel to verify a person’s Jewishness. This brings a bigger question: what does it mean to be genetically Jewish? And can you prove religious identity scientifically?

That your ancestors were jewish. But its a good question since its a mixed race and diluted on the paternal side for every generation these days. Old photos ashkenazi's looked very similar to the travellers of europe. But you can still see on most people who is jewish today. So theres probably a good chunk of genes they look at. wether its the royals lines or sephardic or middle eastern they share common features.

You have a wrong point. Christians were not allowed to marry jews ( not because of racial view ), Catholic church forbid cos Christ was murdered by the jews.

And this goes back to all of Europe being problematic in their relations with Jews when it came to WWII and the Nazis. Most of Europe was Catholic or had deep, deep Catholic roots.

America was only marginally better because it was peopled by religious castoffs from Europe.

The problem is made worse by the Jews that call their religion Judaism. Technically Judaism has it's roots with the tribe of Judah so that then would be racial.
But it's quite simple (and it goes for Islam as well) anyone can convert to Judaism and Islam but you can't convert to be a Jew or Arab, which are races.

How do you come to that conclusion. Judaism is a religion, anyone can convert to Judaism but just because you've changed religion does not mean you change your racial identity. And just because you've changed to Judaism does not make you a Jew. As the Jewish people are a race.

This answer is correct.

The roots of the Jewish people are actually in southern Iraq. Abraham was born in Sumer, southern Iraq around 2000 BC. He left his father, Terah, and went to Canaan which is in present day Israel. From there, he started the first Abrahamic religion which today encompass Judaism, Islam and Christianity.

You are right about adopting the Jewish faith. Becoming a Jew does not mean you are genetically linked historically to the tribes of Canaan. You simply practice the religion.

The genetic link used to be through the mother's bloodline. However, today we have genetic testing which can confirm whether a person has Jewish genes. The most prevalent are Ashkenazi Jews, primarily from Europe, followed by Sephardic Jews from North Africa.

This is what the Kryon (a channeled entity who has loads of readings available for free AND who has met w the Jews and has discussed The Situation w them many times) have said about the Jews:

-You are born into Judaism. If you leave, you cannot go back...we’re talking reincarnation can’t go back
-As the Jews go, so goes the world.
-If you were to look at dna, you would see a difference
-The Jews were supposed to lead us to one God - monotheism

“No other group has the attributes of a "race" without being one (according to anthropologists). No other group has seen civilization try to eliminate them repeatedly over the centuries, no matter if they were slaves or in modern times sitting in their own country. They're a group that has a core energy to civilization itself. "As go the Jews, so goes the world" is a correct statement, and believe me, you shouldn't envy this position, for it carries with it such seeds of responsibility that the load is heavier for them...”

www.kryon.com...

Just an aside
-my mom seems to have a bit of Ashkenazi Jew, according to her dna analysis and she is rh positive.

Hope you find that interesting

I''m not trying to come off wrong but even my Jewish friends can't even give me a direct answer

I'm genuinely surprised at that because its Judaism 101.

If your mum is Jewish, you're Jewish regardless of whether you are observant.

It's the basis of Israeli Right to Return.

Conversion is another way in but that's a tiny minority of Jews, and if a convert marries a Jew and has a child it's not an issue.

Ah, you say, that's all ideas and not science. Read the question: are Jews a race?

Like sex, ethnicity is scientific. Like gender, race is social.

The OP is actually driving towards another agenda than some random "is Jewish a race" type question. I'm pretty sure his question has more to do with Whoopi than wanting to know the answer. Whoopi made some extremely racist comments and if the Jews are not a race then how can her comments be racist? That seems to fit with the timeline of his question to the recent events.

That also begs the question of what ratio qualifies you to be accepted in the Jewish community. Being a sixteenth first nations or Indian doesn't make me Navajo or Hindu. Being an eighth Scottish doesn't mean I move to Wales and pick up a bagpipe. So what do these genetic traces of Jewish ancestry (or prominent Jewish practitioners) actually mean as biology and citizenship goes? Is it like someone in your family tree was gay so you carry those potential triggers in your DNA? Or is it like blue eyes vs hazel eyes and utterly irrelevant to your politics? Or does it give you anatomical advantage the way some talking heads insist is the case with African descended athletes?

C'mon science, tell us the facts about race vs social constructs.

Well if one really wanted to assume race was just 3 then EU, Russia, parts of Asia, upper Africa, all the Middle East and most of the Americas are Caucasian. At least the Jews define race by Mitochondrial DNA and not just the color of their skin, or what they happen to feel like what they want to be...lol

Mitochondrial DNA is scientific to a point. It helps to predict certain outcomes under largely theoretical circumstances. It doesn't identify one class of citizen vs another or what the inherent abilities and contribution of that specific patient are likely to be.

Well it can identify one race from another as the mother passes it down, so you can go back a 1000 generations or 10,000 if you want. Now I have no clue to what you are getting at with inherent abilities....

So you're talking about population genetics, which doesn't quantify people as being categorically "Jewish" or whatever. You have a certain amount of geographically significant markers in your DNA which says that someone from a particular nation contributed their genes to yours. That's not a membership card. Nor does it make you especially qualified to participate in their culture.

I often question the local community about their ethnic influences (if they try to brag about such background) and how much they have studied the language or dabbled in the customs of the region. Spoilers: not at all.

People use the term race to differentiate groups of people. There are many markers people use that are physically, culturally, genetically, regionally, religion and even politically to suggest a group of people are a race.

If people do not like the term race then what do people think it should be called.

What is it that you want to call it?
