Is Judaism a religion or a race ?

Hitler made Judaism as a race with his idealogy and racial purity program. Before that it was just a religion.
It is kinda sad that after WW2 judaism has been treated still as a race, sure it is not hereditary but usually goes back for generations. There are commercial DNA tests in Israel to verify peoples jewishness basicly ashkenazi roots, according Bible Aškenaz was great grandson of Noah.

So genealogy claims of Noah as a ancestor is not unusual as studies has proven that almost all Europeans have common ancestor Charlemagne LINK
So those days earth was not so populated as today and in Noah´s times it was even less populated.. so most likely we all go back to Noah.

The simple answer is: Judaism is a religion of identity.

A Jew is a person identified as, and accepted by, Jews as being Jewish. The easiest way to be accepted as such is if one's mother is accepted as Jewish. It really helps if her mother is also among the Jewish.

Jews may run the full spectrum of beliefs about the gods, from full atheist to full polytheist, doesn't matter. As long as other Jews accept them as Jewish it's all cool.

In times past, when numbers were few, conversion was encouraged and facilitated. Other times not so much; many hurdles and obstacles.

As for the Woopie Goldberg matter: She's American and not European. The U.S. never had a history of official Jewish disability (no citizenship, no property ownership) such as Europe did from the Fourth Lateran Council (1215) until well into the 1700s (1800s in some countries).

So when the word emancipation is heard by Americans, they think of freeing slaves and allowing them to be full citizens of the U.S. When Europeans hear emancipation, they may very well think of the Jewish Emancipation.

In the US there was shift in attitude about it all. Jews were very much considered a minority and discriminated against for that status, even here, up until the '60s. Even though the US never had official anti-Jewish policies to rival Europe, it is also known that policies of the US government to disallow Jews to flee to to the US from Europe during the the run up to WWII certainly contributed many Jewish deaths.

It was similar to today's Christians in hardline Muslim countries where they are openly persecuted seeking asylum and being denied only worse in that the Germans were rounding them up and putting in camps like the Chinese are with Uyghers.

But with the rise of victimhood, we had two minorities and two victim groups (there were others, but blacks were the ones vying for the title of most oppressed). So during the '60s Civil Rights movement, you had this shift away from thinking of Jews as a minority or ever having been oppressed because of the reasons you site when they did face discrimination and even persecution in this country, and they really do remain a minority today in actual percentage totals.

Plenty of groups who have come to this country have faced discrimination for one reason or another.

Judaism is a religion. A religion that was still successfully recruiting into medieval times (mostly in eastern Europe). Almost all of world Jewry descend from these converts and don't appear to have any credible claim to being a semitic people. Why not? Think about it. Most of those European states had tacitly allowed Germany to carry on with what they were doing for a good long time. Most of them knew things were getting worse and even murderous for Jews under Nazi rules, but they did and said nothing because they weren't sympathetic themselves.

So after the war, they said, "Sorry, not sorry." in effect by creating the Jewish state on a tiny sliver of land surrounded by enemies. It was never supposed to last, but it did. Jews got lucky and were far more militarily tenacious than the Europeans thought they would be. Otherwise, it would have been the perfect way to get rid of them without looking like you were.

This *is* a conspiracy site, and I think the European powers were trying to use the creation of Israel to ditch the Jewish problem once and for all.

Jews/Judaism is a Tribe of 'Adamic humans''...

the Jewish Tribe however was the only group of Israel people to keep Offically the religious rites/covenant with the monotheistic God...

...and then was set aside as being the group chosen (from all the 12 Israel Tribes & world wide Goyim) to bring forth the Messiah from the blood-line/Tribe of King David

the term 'chosen people' is/was not to be inferred as being 'superior' but to have been 'set apart' for their honoring their promise...

Does it matter? If being Jewish is a race or not? I think we spend too much time focusing and categorizing all of us.

People are people. Some believe things differently. Some don't.

If we spent as mucch time and energy looking at what we all have in common instead of what differentiates us, I think we'd all get along much better.

It's a religion and a race. If you're Jewish and take the 23andme or Ancestry genetic test, your genetic profile will show that you have an Ashekenazi Jewish gene. I have that in my genetic profile.

The religion is the original Abrahamic religion from which Islam came as well.
