There is a book we had to read in school "Das Leben der Anne Frank" "The life of Anne Frank" (English title might not be literal in translation).
I recommend it to everyone interested about the dynamics back then. It's a tough read though, for me it was because I read it at a time when WW2 was a big topic in history classes and seen some old footage of war.
For anyone further interested, there is an outstanding book series by Ralf Isau. Fictional. It's about the life of someone living from 1900-1999 and part of it handles WW1 and WW2 but factual and with little tidbits. In fact so good researched that my history teacher asked me twice if I have a family member relaying this to me it was so accurate.
The books have 700-900 pages in small print and one book is just about WW2 from the perspective of someone similar like Anne Frank. It goes through all the stages how it built up, how people reacted it's a masterpiece. Fictional story but real life information. Even places fit I checked when wikipedia became a thing.
Circle of the Dawn, I got it recommeded myself and read all five books in hospital.

Groucho, Harpo, Zeppo, and Chico? What bull are you talking about?
I know mine is an unpopular opinion but anyone who diligently reads and studies on the subject comes up with questions that they are forbidden to ask. Why and how would that be? Aren't you curious why we are forbidden to discuss any version of events besides the one taught in school? To even suggest that things may not be as we were told will get angry reactions and hate toward anyone who dares say it.
I knew my grandparents and two of my great grandparents. They did not see the war the same way it has been portrayed.
BTW I'm 56 and Guns of Navorone rules. Maybe Kelly's Heros could rival or the Great Escape but make believe is still make believe.
