She already testified against Greenberg and has continued working with investigators. So there's no reason not to expect her to testify.

However, are we supposed to ignore Gaetz's claim that the sex trafficking allegations are part of an extortion scheme?

Are we supposed to ignore that Stephen Alford (former Justice Department official) pleaded guilty to attempting to extort Gaetz's wealthy father for $25,000,000 in exchange for Matt's pardon for sex trafficking?

It seems to me maybe these sex trafficking allegations are a complete fabrication so that $25M could be extorted from him and his family, and they (well one of them) got caught. Now they are just dragging him through the mud to smear him for political purposes.

Perhaps Gaetz was just an easy target for extortion because his associate was guilty of similar charges.

In fact, if Matt Gaetz's career (future income potential) is damaged by these accusations it is considered libel, and the OP and anyone contributing to the accusations without evidence, and before a conviction, could be legally responsible for damages.

No. You're supposed to let him prove this "extortion" scheme.

As you've framed it? Yes. Stephen Alford was a real estate developer, not a former justice department official.

Whats the point in focusing on a separate crime? How is it relevant to Gaetz's own allegations?

Grand juries dont convene based on hearsay.

Or.......maybe he's guilty. That's the point, finding out.

Where are the accusations of guilt? No one here is libelous....

It doesn't matter where in the US Gaetz was. As soon as he paid a minor for sex he was breaking Child Sex Trafficking laws. The act of just paying her for sex comes with a sentence of 10 years to life.

ORLANDO, Fla. — Rep. Matt Gaetz’s ex-girlfriend testified Wednesday before a federal grand jury investigating him for sex crimes, a major development that suggests the Department of Justice may be moving closer to indicting him.
The ex-girlfriend, whose name is being withheld by NBC News to respect her privacy, has been in talks for months with prosecutors about an immunity deal. Under a possible deal, she would avoid prosecution for obstruction of justice in return for testifying in the investigation into whether Gaetz in 2017 had sex with a 17-year-old female for money and whether months later he and others violated a federal law prohibiting people for paying for prostitutes overseas.

It looks like the net may be finally closing on Gaetz.
After no indictment came last year many assumed he was in the clear. However, after prosecutors requested in October that his sentencing be delayed again due to his continued cooperation with investigators I had a feeling this wasn't over.
We now know that Gaetz is the target of a grand jury. Based on the way grand juries work, there's a good chance Gaetz will be indicted. Then we'll start to see how deep this rabbit hole goes. Based on comments from Greenberg's lawyer, what Gaetz and Greenberg were a part of was pretty widespread in Florida's political scene.
I will say that if prosecutors are moving to indict Gaetz they must have a pretty strong case. One doesn't exactly go after a sitting US Representative on a whim.
It will also be interesting to see if McCarthy does anything about Gaetz' committee assignments at this point or if he waits until an actual indictment is handed down.
The Justice Department has informed lawyers for at least one witness that it will not bring charges against Florida GOP Rep. Matt Gaetz after a years-long federal sex-trafficking investigation, according to a source familiar with the matter.

You're just attacking Matt Gaetz because he's a black woman of color!
Why do you always hate so much?

The party that screams "Dems are grooming your kids", are always on defence when one their own may actually be groomer.
Roy Moore, Matt Gaetz, Donald Trump and etc....

Justice Department Ends Sex-Trafficking Case Against Rep. Matt Gaetz
The Justice Department has ended its investigation into Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) without any charges, according to the Florida congressman and news reports.
Gaetz’s office said in a statement, according to the Associated Press, “The Department of Justice has confirmed to Congressman Gaetz’s attorneys that their investigation has concluded and that he will not be charged with any crimes.”
Gaetz was being investigated by the DOJ on whether Gaetz and a onetime political ally, Joel Greenberg, had paid underage girls and escorts or offered them gifts in exchange for sex, AP reported. Greenberg pleaded guilty as part of a plea deal and was sentenced to 11 years in federal prison.
