In our area very few closed at first, but now we are seeing it.

Tons of closures.
Lots of mom and pop shops, some were open for almost 50 years! Many just went right into retirement. Some of these places are in PRIME real estate spots, so curious to see what moves in.

Places here hanging on a thread right now are gyms, small novelty stores, and of course lots and lots of restaurants.
Even the big chain places are taking a beating like I’ve never seen. The few Starbucks we have here are not doing well, I seriously don’t see how what is happening is sustainable. Not enough workers and customers don’t like inconsistencies.

Grocery stores and hardware stores are doing pretty good.

What does it look like by you, I’m curious if its the same all around?

Lots of well-known small restaurants are closing doors due to staffing issues.

Places that don't have a good base of dedicated clientele are struggling and of the aforementioned, even some of those that do can't stay in business because they can't get the staff.

People shifting to online shopping during the pandemic hurt businesses the most around here. There were some closures originally, but then a lot of businesses just shut down for a while, some may get going again, others won't. A lot of small business owners are straddled in debt now though, and if they raise prices to cover the losses people will just go elsewhere to get their goods. Not good. I know some contractors and they are having problems getting supplies...sometimes it takes months to get siding and windows in. Even though the windows are made a state away, they can't get them within a week or two of ordering like they used to. On top of that, prices of supplies jumped way up and not as many people are having the work done till prices go back down. So they are not employing nearly as many people anymore.

Some businesses have recovered, maybe half are doing "all right" but competing with big internet companies is tough, I foresee half of the small stores going down the tube within a few years maximum.

Mostly restaurants 😲

We only lost a few newer restaurants who picked a bad time to make a start. There is a worker shortage but things are returning to "normal".

I'm in NW Florida so conditions are pretty good but everyone knows that the commies are coming for our governor and our way of life so God only knows what they will do to crash the party.

hi, in my area restaurants are closing left and right or closing at 5pm with signs saying no staff. Where are all the staff?

Small businesses have been closing, and the few that are left are mostly side-line hobby businesses, like a stained glass outfit that gives lessons and sells supplies. The owner doesn't have to work, and seems to make enough profit selling supplies and giving lessons to stay open.
Several ladies have started specialty cake and cookie decorating businesses out of their homes, and are keeping busy. Again, just supplemental income.
Many locally owned restaurants have closed, leaving mostly fast food chains. Corner grocery stores are being replaced by 'convenience marts'.
Big box stores are thriving. As more and more local businesses fold, it looks like our future might contain far fewer small town businesses. I hate to see a monopoly of giant corporations, but the longer the supply chain stays locked up, the greater the chance of that happening.
Maybe the Mom and Pop stores will have to become franchises in the future, buying in to represent large corporations locally.

Friend works at corporate Rite Aid they are going to cut 250 stores this year including our local one. The Walgreens are already gone. Places to eat we lost some but new people started taking over to get ready to open. The local buildings that were empty all sold but are still empty and for sale again. People trying to cash in.

What astounds me is how quickly the left pivoted from how Big Box was "teh debil" to making them the heroes and closing down mom and pop because they just wanted to infect and kill us all.

Only one I'm sad about is the 21 Club. Every other place I patronize is still open.

Luckily, so far, not many that I know of.
I'm in a small village with only a few shops etc and they're mostly clustered in the same street.
My favourite fish and chip shop has shut but there's another very close.
Don't know if it's permanent.

Ironically, the Drs surgery has closed off and on and the on-site pharmacy has had staffing issues "due to covid"......make of that what you will.

Some locals have been grumbling about the doctors because, apparently, it's too dangerous to see patients at the surgery but not too dangerous for them to jab people a couple of miles away.

My favorite B-Bque place, out of business

Our favorite Mom and Pop long time donut shop - sold

Baskin-Robbins ice cream shop - closed out of business

Fast food places, not fast with surly employees especially our local Burger King, won't go there anymore.

Only Chick-Fil-A seems to be thriving with adequate and polite staff

Local Dollar General operating on 2 employees during operating hours

Favorite small business is now a wreck, not enough staff to keep the place straightened up, can barely run the place.

IHop used to be run by the nicest family, he is no longer the owner and employees scream at each other in the restaurant.

Many formerly very tidy stores are now a mess and being run on shoestring staff.

A strip mall near me, practically empty, was mostly small niche businesses.

I wish I could take a video, how my old ready before the pandemic welfare city use to look like, sgtore had plenty of goods, now is pathetic, everywhere you got is nothing but signs of wanted help but nobody wants to work, soo business are closing, no for lack of business but for lack of worker.

Something really weird is going on, is like we are been prep for the next step, socialism or communist implementation.

Very soon everybody will be given a meal card for rations and long lines to get what you need if you even have the chance to make it before all rations are over.

For the first time our local grocery stores have empty shelves, Just remember this is all under the democrats regime

Bigfoot Car Wash is the first place that comes to mind, other small places that aren't part of a large chain like tanning salons and some vape shops. None of the restaurants that I get grub from have been affected, even though they are small establishments. Those that were able to keep customers served with take-out during the lockdowns seemed to have fared the best.

ETA: the music store next to Bigfoot car wash will soon be Uncle Ike's Pot Shop. Who needs a piano when you can just get stoned?

Business is booming at Veterinary I work at. We don't allow Clients in building, and staff have been rotating in & out sick, but we're able to keep going. Many Clients have reported sickness, but they find someone to bring their pet in. So thankful we've kept going and that pets are still being well cared for!

Place I went to get my hair cut for years closed.
My favorite fine dining steak house turned to crap...had to close two newer branches in neighboring cities.

Here in coastal Florida, however, everything seems to be booming.

Future cartoons just won't be funny if a bag of weed lands on someone off a cliff edge or being delivered to tall buildings on a rope and pulley!

I demand this covid nonsense be stopped immediately.
