I need an explanation for "damson" jam, which, I could Google, but I won't.

I cannot be specific but I can say it usually involves something unhealthy, greasy and awesome. Commonly washed down with a cold beverage I like to call "lunchbeer".

its like a small purple slight cherry flavour plum. they are a subspecies of plum. nobody really picks much of the fruit round here much ( north UK)
they all rely on supermarkets.

but you can't get it there so I make my own jam. it contains pectin so no need to add. its really good. other fruit jams you need to buy and add pectin. the stuff that makes it jammy.
with damsons you don't need to.

Growing up, I felt like every one my mum knew had damson trees. It was a permanent feature (almost) to have boiling tubs of damson jam on the go and the sound of popping lids as the jars cooled would make me jump because I thought they would burst!

She's 83 now and still makes jam herself and I'd bet there's some damson in her cupboard.

Wonderful on toast!

Today I had leftover chili for lunch.I finally broke
down and opened up one of my jars of pickled hot-
dogs. I had them for dinner along with cooked carrots
and buttered boiled potatoes. They were so good...

My partner LOVES pickled hotdogs. That's a weird sentence, but I just never hear about people eating them. 😂

That looks absolutely amazing!

Today I had mixed Asian salad.
I'm a big time meat eater but I've noticed i'm just not as hungry during lunch anymore so a salad is
plenty to fill me.

BTW if you liked that egg/rice dish have you ever tried Kimchi fried rice? It is sooo good.

I had a grilled mackerel fillet salad. I usually eat crazy healthy tho.

I am eating Kamut for supper. I am 44 but most people think I look like I am in my mid thirties and act like like a 25 year old so maybe I am ahead of the game? Who knows…. Hahahaha

mackerel

I grew up on makerel, but whatever is out there now is different.
I talked to my mom about it and she had agreed. She would know because she too ate it her whole life and she was old.
I don't know if a different type of makerel took over, or if it is what is being fished now, but it is totally not the same.
Noticed the difference about ten or so years ago.

Also wanted to add, I'm a pretty big foodie but I love ancient grains too. I'm growing amaranth, it's actually easy to grow.
My mom also grew up eating millet, but here it's know as bird food! LOL

Maybe ten years ago I just stopped eating junk. Not because of any crazy reason,I just realized how much of it I had consummed in my life time. I though to myself. How many cheezits is enough? do I really enjoy eating junk? I treat a lot of my meals like healthy fuel.

I love the seadood. I love soups. If I eat like a health monster most of the time the days I want to eat fried yuca or something like that I feel justified to do so.

After working with food for so long it just took the need for convience away.

I just want something prepared with care. By me or someone else. I dont need processed garbafe anymore

sorry lol dont know😆 where that rant came from

eat fried yuca

My friend and I used to call that our crack! I could totally live on fried yuca, black beans and rice and be a happy person.
I wonder if I was Cuban in a past life?
That is what I miss about Florida the most!!! Frid yuca, plantains, and Cuban food in general. uggggg, So hard to get it where I live!

I prefer the fried yuca over fries. No central or south American restaurants where you are?

That is harsh.

Last night, my son told me to bring home the makings for Dagwood sandwiches when I get home from work today.
Then he says that "You'll need all this." and shows me a shot from the cartoon strip of one of Dagwood's sandwiches.
There was a crawfish, a whole fish of some sort, all kinds of cold cuts and vegetables.
I'm not buying crawfish tonight.

Shakshuka - recipe (Clicky here!)
Eggs, tomatoes 'n stuff. Oh, yeah, chillies. Chillies, are a must! Otherwise You're getting mildly scrambled eggs. (without a reason for beating them up into a pulp.) Chillies have helped me shrug off sickness for years!
Not this sickness, though - Sickness

I cook a lot on the weekends, like BBQ and stuff. Vac seal that in portions and use that for lunches and dinners during the week. Today I have a few slices of brisket from 11/24 that im making a sandwich from. Threw together a quick BBQ sauce in a small container, and a bag of chips.

One of my favorite is a Kimchi Ramen with smoked pork in it. I just make individual vacuum sealed portions that I freeze to use.

When I cook supper I do so with a mind for the next days lunch. So that is pretty frequent as well. I cook really good food, and put a lot of love into it. I don't like wasting that effort, especially given that leftovers usually taste better so long as they aren't fried.
