Drone opinions needed

I want to get my daughter a drone for Christmas.
Damn there are a bunch of them from cheap to holy crap!

She’s 19 so I’m not looking for a toy but I don’t want to shoot Hollywood quality video either.
I’m shooting for something around $300.
There are a bunch out there in that range but all the information is overwhelming.

Anyone out there have some experience with drones that could give me some input?

Can't offer to much help unfortunately. I bought my second DJI Mini 2 last month.

The DJI Mini 2 is $600.00, no sound, 4k video, under the weight required for FAA .. needs a smart phone or tablet.

Excuse the mess.

I know of another american made drone with all the same for half the price.


Edit: I can't find it. It might be Skydio. I did see a couple DJI MINI 2's for $124.00😮

Anyway, I have no intel on your question, but I do know for 300 you're already having decent gear. So if you find the right drone it will be relatively good quality, considering the vast price ranges these things go.

I haven't flown for about 2 years. I just gave my new unflown drone to my youngest son. I used to take my drones for a walk. I'm an exobitionist. All the neighbors are on to me.

I have the original Mavic mini. I paid $500aud for mine, and it was refurbished !! Problem for me is there are so many regs that I can't damn fly the thing anywhere legally.

But the mavic mini is definitely a top drone, especially with the controller that your phone slips into to act as just a screen.

Just have to make sure if you get a drone, OP, that you look into all the legal fidgy widgy that comes with them, I didn't, and it's sat on top of my PC case for a year now :/

There aren't to many overbearing regulations here.
Just the common sense don't fly near the airport kind of stuff.

Also, small doesn't mane toy, really... it's actually a big sport.

Honestly if I was really sure my daughter would get into the hobby I would get her a mavic but that's more than I want to spend.

I have a beautiful fender guitar with a nice amp that takes up room in my house..... She didn't use it much...lol

That, or over crowds, peoples houses (we're stacked like lego blocks here), in parks with people, over populated areas, over any emergency event, too far out of sight, to high... nothing over 500grams without a license too. not sure if that's the case there, but it's the reason I can't put rotor guards on my mavic.. pushes it just over.

They all but made it impossible to fly them here... not in nature reserves, over beaches, etc... I asked the aviation authority where I can fly mine, and got no reply.. :/

You guys have a lot of open land though, from the drone footage I've seen on youtube, makes it a lot of a better deal to get into the hobby..

I've had a couple of DJI drones.

The Mavic Mini (first gen) is the best out there for the price. It's a VERY capable little drone.

$339 currently for a FACTORY refurbished fly more combo (with full warranty ) on the DJI Ebay Store with everything you need to fly out of the box.

Note: I would not buy a second hand drone at this level.
