The lack of affordable housing is a national disgrace.
I could go into the causes etc but to be honest, I can't be arsed tonight.

There are enough empty houses, commercial properties and derelict land sites to easily solve the UK's housing crisis and provide shelter etc for refugees.

Programmes like Bastion mentioned have had promising results.
Why haven't they been rolled out nationally and on a wide scale?
Money.
No-one makes enough profit out if it.

I’m not joking when I say I get solicited to give winter clothing in new - preferred, or very very gently used condition for the Afghan refugee on a weekly if not daily basis. I noticed it is colder now they are urgently asking. Keep in mind for locals here 40 degrees is still tshirt weather, but for people from that part of the world it is probably absolutely freezing.

As far as the refugee statement, it is just stuff I’m starting to hear and people argue over. Don’t worry it will spread mainstream soon enough.

I'd think the key here is are you asked or ordered to give? I suspect nobody is being forced to give to help their fellow human beings in need. So it's simply that people are being asked for help that irks you?

I find it difficult to blame people who have had no say in the affairs of their own country, which has never really been a country in the usual sense, for the position they find themselves in. You don't think they would rather that their country be fixed and they remain there, as opposed to being forced to seek safety in another country, where many seem to hate them, just for existing?

Most of these people are victims and sadly it is human nature to hate victims it seems. Just like it is human nature to hate anyone who is different in any way. We humans are pretty disgusting at times.

Like any group of refugees that come to a country.

The first ones have all manner of issues, their kids have issues, but not as many, assimilation doesn't, and never will, happen over night.

Where I used to live, a few years back, a large group of Russian Orthodox refugees from the then Soviet Union were brought over by several church groups.

At first they stuck out like sore thumbs--nice folks, just obviously out of place. They worked hard, bought a few houses, did the work themselves, and became part of the community. Their kids learned English, and as they got older, got jobs--raised their kids, who were American in every way. Three generations.

It happened in the seventies and eighties with the Vietnamese who came over here. Same thing.

Given time, these refugees will fit in.

But they have to be given that time.

Well the war cost 2.3 trillion and I didn't ask for that, so that was forced. Yeah yeah, we voted etc.

Right now they are asking, but that will probably change soon.

Something like this:
www.illinoispolicy.org...

CHICAGO BUDGET HANDS $500 MONTHLY TO SOME, HIGHER PROPERTY TAXES TO OTHERS

Lightfoot is using roughly $32 million from temporary federal COVID-19 relief grants to fund a test of universal basic income in the new budget. The plan will give $500 a month to 5,000 low-income families for a year, but there is no plan for funding after the federal money runs out in 2024.

This isn't directly immigrant related, but I can see this happening.

Thing is, these "Chuggers'" are quite in yer face.

If you sign up (they want your bank details to set up the donation - they don't take cash) they get a percentage. I prefer to donate to charities, which I do a lot, direct. There was a homeless guy in Salisbury where I used to work and me and Mrs would give him a Burger King and a coffee. So grateful. Then there are the professional druggie beggars. Saw a woman give one a Gregg's sandwich and a coffee. He spat at her and threw them away. Charming.

Yeah tell that to the 3rd generation children of immigrants and refugees in Europe and the UK that are beheading and stabbing people in the streets, running over Christmas markets full of people in trucks and setting fire to countless churches all in the name of some arse backwards religion that's centuries behind almost all others.

Multiculturalism does not work. It never has, and never will.

Try to tell me that's the majority, go ahead.

In every group there are bad ones. How about taking a look at the ones who got jobs, raised their kids, and are trying to fit in?? But that kind of negates the rant, doesn't it?

Those Russians I mentioned? Several of them are now in prison, either here in the US, or back in Russia, after they were deported.

Coloring an entire group for the actions of some doesn't help the situation any.

Really? Multi culturalism doesn't work? I see it at work all the time. Does it make for uncomfortable conversations, at times...yeah, it can. That's why treating them like enemies won't work either. Eventually they will be enemies.

Not all of them are doing that, though, are they?

I'm not saying all these people are bad people. I understand they want to survive.
My whole thing and post is how what is going on is unacceptable from the get go.
The war, the exit, the dumping of these people in rural Wisconsin, then expecting the locals to fund their lack of basic items. Not only that, it has been stressed so many times that NEW items should be given. Okay....something is off here.

Sure you don't have to give if you are asked, but for people that don't live here, imagine being ask over and over, every day almost. It's on the news, on FB on Social media. It is a bit much.

Rural Wisconsin??

For some odd reason I thought you lived on the East Coast...

I can only say what I would do. I'd help as I can afford to. Gently used clothing will undoubtedly be welcomed by those truly in need, and wanting to fit in.

I can see your point, and understand it. It does get tiresome being told you must help!! Especially if you already are.

What I think is important is that any anger is directed at the right people. The refugees, in this case, real refugees, are pawns/victims in all of this. I doubt most of them "asked for this" and it was thrust upon them. Now they find themselves in a country alien to them, at the mercy of their saviors.

I don't think there are any easy answers, but like it or not, we the people are the government we elect and I think it behooves us to show compassion for these people who are no longer welcome or safe in their own homeland, in part due to our actions.

I far prefer charities handling this as opposed to the government taking care of it. Far cheaper and the help is real, not some political ploy.

I help the most forgotten people, VETERANS and their families!

Ok this is not funny, but kinda funny.
One of the reasons clothing donations aren't working out so well..........Wisconsinites are BIG people, even the women. Afghan people are little.
2XXL hunting jackets/coats aren't fitting most people there.

We're talking about refugees here. Things like clothing are gathered by actual charities, not the government. We have groups like Catholic Community Services and the Salvation Army who get involved in things like this.

Also, we are talking about refugees here. Real refugees who would no doubt rather be back at home than here seeking refuge from the Taliban.

Good for you!!

I do as well.

If it helps, many of those Afghan refugees are here because they, too, are veterans of helping the US in Afghanistan. If they hadn't help, God by which ever name help them.

Multiculturalism? Here in England, we are all multicultural. Vikings, Saxons, Romans, Celts, Norman's etc etc.

Take the East End of London. Always has been a melting pot.

The US, founded by immigrants. It all works.

So, given our problems with the IRA a few years back bombing UK pubs and etc (remember Brighton?) do you think all Irish folk want to bomb us?

By the way, thanks to all the Yanks that donated to and sponsored IRA terrorism. Cheers for that.

Good luck to them, as it's kind of hard to get a council house, whilst employed and with two kids, never mind if you are single under 25 and/or an adult male.

Fact of the matter is we need more houses crayzeed for the people that are here never mind the ones who are coming.

Possibly coz its too much like common sense.

Or like you suggest there is just not enough profit in it.

They want people to shell out 1/4 million quid for a Lego shoebox affair all the same.

Well Jesus would offer them a warm jacket and somewhere to stay, that's a given.

Racism certainly don't work i can tell you that.

No matter which side is shovelling it.

America is the epitome of multiculturalism if in doubt look at all the different races that are in abundance.
