4x8GB
or
2x16GB?

Is there a difference other than I use 4 slots and can not upgrade so easy anymore if I take 4x8GB?
I guess parallel is always faster?

Thats a little disappointing, but its OK. We can make you a true gamer still

FWIW, the LED stuff is most frequently optional.. even in the cases that come with it. You just dont connect it. So, if you see a case where you like the looks but are concerned about it being a clown show, dont worry about it.

A black, simplistic case is probably the most common out there. Just take a look around a site like Amazon to browse through them. The thing you really want to look for is air flow, particularly from the front panel. I would also suggest looking for one that has a installation points for radiators (for liquid cooling). Even if you dont go in that direction right now, its nice to have the capability. Most have some type of mounting system for it nowadays, but its still good to check.

Theres a few other features I might suggest, but no need to overcomplicate it.

Good luck

For this AMD architecture, and for 32gb RAM, you will want to look for either 2x16gb double rank or 4x8gb single rank in something like the 3200mhz+ range. Lower CL is good too.

Can also look for b-die on sites like this as they tend to work very well.

I dont believe this has changed since I looked into it a little while back.

ETA: Keeping future upgrades in mind is good, however, mixing and matching modules can be a problem and getting the same ones in the future isnt always possible. So, I would usually suggest just getting what you need here and now. 32gb is a pretty solid number though.

You can do something like get the 2x16gb double rank set and then hope they are still available if you want to upgrade down the line. I just wouldnt plan too much around that possibility.

Oh so it is different like with the 3060?

Because the 3060 has 12GB VRAM but slower bus speed.
The 3060 TI has only 8GB but much faster bus speed I read in an article.

Thank you for the post, much appreciated, I will then go compare some on these compare websites and read a bit into it. If I can save money on it I will do it.

Currently my two options according to the input would be a 3060TI or a 3080, while 3080 would be future proof for a 5k monitor. Maybe I go for the 3060TI and later still upgrade to a 3080 if I feel like it is holding me back.

How good do used graphics card sell? If it looses 200-300€ just because I unpack it, I might go 3080 directly.

You are very welcome my friend.

A 3080 is in your use case not overkill at all. If you want to drive a HP Reverb G2 and or a 4K monitor but you will definitely need it for the Reverb unless you plan on running the Reverb at half res which would put it at about the same res as the ol Rift S. The reverb still gives a bit better image quality then the Rift S at half res but that is not really why you would by a reverb.

As for reselling right now these cards retain their value i would not worry about that.

But have a loo at this. The 3080 vs the 3080 by gamer nexus. Also dont consider AMD for VR there a re a lot of performance issues with AMD atm.

EDIT: To drive the Reverb G2 you would need a 3070 at minimum. Myself i would for sure choose the 3080 for that.

EDIT 2: RGB software can seriously impact your VR performance. If i dont close my corsair IQ software for my keyboard (RGB) everything becomes unplayable. It hogs the USB bus.

Thank you everyone and Serdgi, so I learned I need a 3080 and will redo my config and maybe even consider going INTEL if VR is a big issue with AMD.

About the work memory speed question, the CPU can do 3200Mhz and I chose a 3200Mhz version, the mainboard can do 4400mhz and I found out I can go for the -F version, it lacks the WIFI that I do not need and a 2.5Gbit network card but I only have 50mbit internet connection and often just EDGE, sometimes LTE.

Sorry i may have not been very clear about AMD and VR. About the VR issues i was specifically talking about the AMD GPU's not the CPU's. But then again the new alderlake CPU's from intel seem to be outperforming the current AMD cpu's but the motherboards for it seem to have been delayed atm. No surprise considering the past few years.

The 4400Mhz thing is a bit of a confusing thing. There is the official spec and the unofficial X spec. You should be able to use a 4400 kit but its also far from necessary so sticking to the official spec is safer and fast enough. I doubt you would really notice the difference.

I agree on losing the needless features like the Wifi chip and the 2.5Gbit NIC.
