Dress codes. Back in my days, (the mid-to late 1970s), all us guys had to wear a belt and have our shirt tucked in. Shorts were absolutely not allowed. But the girls could wear dresses that were so short they left nothing covered when they sat down. Believe me, I noticed this.... shortcoming. I mean the dresses were so short they barely covered their underwear when standing!

Where have all the good times gone?

Nowadays, kids can wear anything they want, shorts, etc. I know dress codes and that's no dress code. (Sorry, I copped and paraphrased that last line from an old vice-presidential debate.)

When this mama was a student in school,we had a dress code.
Dresses and skirts had to be finger length or longer,no culottes.
Boys had to wear shirts with collars and shirts had to be tucked
into their pants.
I was wearing 2 inch heels with nylon stockings in junior high.
The dress code changed when I was in the ninth grade and it
was jeans and pants from then on.

I graduated from high school in 1973 and the girls' dresses
were very short back then.Mine weren't,I had a very strict
dad and mine were all at the knee or longer.I felt so out of
place wearing longer hems.I was glad when they finally let
the girls wear pants!

Never a cop outfit,I used to dress up as a clown.
I even had an annoying bicycle horn to toot at
people with.
I seem to remember this thread topic was about
school dress codes...

I remember being in High school with hormones running through my veins. Yes, sexy clothes on the girls were very distracting, that is the main reason that girls often did better in class than guys did back those days.

There needs to be a uniform dress code, one that everyone can completely understand. And like was said in the OP, it needs to include sportswear, including chearleading uniforms and gym attire if it is coed or if there are gays or transgender people in the mix at gym.

She played volleyball all through her school years and I can tell you that many of the girls had cheeks hanging out. I never understood how this behavior was allowed.

It's prepping them for the new Hooters uniforms.

But people only go there for the wings.....

They serve wings at Hooters?

That's the rumor I hear from the servers, but I'm not there for their pointless jibber jabber.

Then I will bring out the big guns.

Exhibit A: Front page of the schools website, at least 4 teachers have very short skirts and low low cleavage and one wearing what you could call stilettos.

Don't forget your calipers.

If I remember correctly, back in the 90's, the dress code was skirts, dresses and shorts could be no shorter than one's middle finger at the thigh for girls.
Boys' shorts had to be no short than an inch or two above the knee (can't remember which)
Neither gender could wear anything with holes even if it was designed that way.
Only one inch of skin was allowed to be shown under the collar bone, no tank tops, no spaghetti strap tops.
Shoes had to cover the entire foot, toes included.
Oh, and both genders had to have "appropriate haircuts" and no dyed hair. Also for the girls, make-up had to be "natural in appearance".

Nobody EVER enforced the dress code. I wore shorts at code length because they were more comfortable anyway. I also dyed my hair all manner of shades (but not the current Crayola Box colors trend) and even sported a buzz cut once because why not -- it grows back. Then metallic make-up was a thing, and everyone was wearing metallic pink/purple/silver "make-up sets" (lipstick, lip liner, eye liner, eye shadow, mascara, even nail polish ALL the same color....Wet 'N' Wild made a mint off teens back then)
I also wore open-toed sandals, and so did most other students. Many wore basic flip-flops, lol.

Maybe it was because it was SW FL in the 90's and they just didn't care because climate. Or because...Florida. It was practically a Ground Zero for the velvet halter top bikinis that were a hot commodity back then for some damn reason. And I totally did not own one, honest, pinky swear!

Lol, look at the menu, not the waitresses' cleavage!
The wings are ok, but I used to get a blacked grouper sammie at Hooters that was (as far as I was concerned) one of the best tasting things they offered, way better than the wings were.

So how do schools explain athletic wear that goes against the dress code?
Isn't that something?
