My opinion. For the whole world, Edward Snowden is a hero. This is true. For the United States, he is a traitor. And this is also true. Whatever universal human motives he was guided by, first of all he betrayed his people and his country. If he were a real hero, he would die for his beliefs in his country and become a hero for the citizens of his country.
And so, he went into hiding in my country, and became a traitor for the Americans. This is true.

Why? We had laws that protected "whistleblowers" for a reason.
Now with the corruption around us a whistleblower could not be heard unless they ran and spoke from somewhere safe. They shut People up now have you not noticed? A word and wham accident, heart attack, then how do the people hear the truth?

Edward Snowden was sworn in when he entered the service. He broke it.

I agree but it has to be expanded a bit due to the complexity of the situation.

He did but the precedent set at the Nuremburg Trials after WW2 and the legal rulings made then and agreed by the three big powers at the time mean that he should have been protected for what he did so long as it did not endanger his nations national security.
www.facinghistory.org...

For that answer to stand up - regardless of the fact that it IS the way the world work's - the victorious powers that held the Nuremburg war crimes trials would have to officially opt out of it's rulings and refuse to abide by them (which they all did unofficially), in essence a soldier is expected to follow his orders to the letter, to pull the trigger to turn a blind eye and to ignore criminal behaviour by his superiors, Edward Snowdon was not willing to do so and rightly fall's under the mantle of conscientious objector AND the mantle of Defending the Public whistle blower.

However since some of the information he leaked COULD be construed as having put the US intelligence operations at a disadvantage and some may even claim he may have endangered lives as some wiki leaks releases most certainly did he could then be called a traitor and held under treason laws.

But once again However since the US itself and the UK have both allowed information of even more life threatening nature to enter the hands of for example the Taliban AND Isis K during there pull out of Afghanistan that argument in my opinion would be hypocritical and patently evil.

Yes he broke his oath BUT he did so to KEEP his oath since those whom were higher in the chain of command were actually BREAKING there oath's and using there apparatus as a secret police to control and spy on the US citizens themselves.

So DID he break his oath or did the extenuating circumstances of his case mean that NO he did not break his oath he actually upheld it by breaking rank's and revealing the criminality going on around him.

That is what a whistleblower has to do to Blow The Whistle on corruption! How do you think it works?
