Amazon have today unveiled their own cute little house robot , Astro.
Astro has Alexa functionality combined with Ring monitoring technology (6 month free trail included) , it roams your house making itself useful (I guess) and is guaranteed not to crap on your carpet , but like the (original) Daleks it doesn't do stairs.

Amazon have released a suitably cheesy video to introduce you to your new $1,000 techno pet.

Sadly this slice of the future is only available in the US at present but will no doubt be rolled out worldwide in due course.

I've been waiting months for a new graphics card , I guess the limited availability is a symptom of that.

So I can place a water bong and a bottle of whiskey in its holding tray and tell it to play porn? All the while amazon is observing me and listening to my right-wing conspiracy conversations reporting them to the authorities and then reminding me when its time to take my meds?

Ha, probably so because I do like certain creature comforts minus the surveillance tech.

However, I may need to revisit the Hunter-Gatherer lifestyle and work out a compromise before 2030.

Awesome!
I can't wait for the little bastard to cross my path and trip me so I can sue Bezos for a small fortune. I can feel the pain already.

IIRC the major tech companies have ironclad contracts stating they get their chips first.

Would be ironic if smart phone sales collapsed, because customers can't get to stores or there isn't enough delivery vehicles available...

At least K-9 was on the good side, and not continually collecting data for an empire.

Even Orwell's mind was limited to something attached to the wall and mandated by government. Not even he could envision people voluntarily paying for the same tech to follow them around their homes!

I wonder if we can vote from home with this little guy. I'm sure it would be every bit as secure as a Dominion machine.

Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451 perhaps? Seems a bit more inline. Article
