This is what they typically call the math fellow you describe above...

synesthesia
the production of a sense impression relating to one sense or part of the body by stimulation of another sense or part of the body.

This and many other senses just blow everything we think they should be out of the water, and it really puts them at some higher advantage.

I mentioned my husband? He wanted to be an electrical engineer, but the circuitey charts that were color coded played havok with his synesthesia. The color/number associations were "wrong" for him so trying to learn them was an uphill battle.

Today he's in microbiology.

So it's not always an advantage.

Not to bust your bubble, but everyone on the planet is gifted. Some more than
others due to active use vs lack of knowledge. The only factor that separates
dormant/inactivated gifts from those activated is willingness, motivation
and a mindset to actively develop their gifts.

Most gifts are generational, and yet many siblings fail to activate
what's in their DNA. Some peoples gifts are like a butterfly
trapped in a bottle, all of which can be developed with
proper knowledge and instruction.

The nonbiological spiritual nature of our being comes
with gifts.

I'm not gifted in anyway. I pretty much suck at everything and boy have I tried everything with effort. I can't even reach an acceptable middle ground in anything I have tried much less good or great. I have learned to understand my limitations though and I live a pretty good life so all is good, but I do not try and kid myself in thinking I'm actually extremely competent at anything even the things I love to do.

Well thank you for suggesting that, but at 61 I'm pretty sure I know myself well. I'm not saying I have had no success in life, I live pretty good and have accomplish more than one would say the average American has, BUT I truly suck at everything I have had a fancy to try.

What I find astounding is when I find a person who truly seems to suck at life in general, but there is one thing about them that they just excel at with zero effort or thought that what they have is truly extraordinary, and they see it as normal.
