The radius measurement sounds especially painful compared to a penny. Ouch TMS.

Well, not as bad as our Aussie friends. They started this long ago in preparation for what their government is presently giving them...

LOL....I’m superstitious and only pick-up heads up pennies, however I will flip over pennies from tails to heads for the next person to find.
I do pick up all coins and keep them in a big glass jug where I put all my change when I clean out purse. Waste not, want not !

That flipping of the tails up pennies to heads up for the next person to find is actually the sweetest thing I have heard all day.

My uncle was leaving the mall and saw a penny as he was going out the door and picked it up. When he did the door hit him in the butt and knocked him down and he could not get up. So the ambulance came and picked him up and brought him to the ER. Two hundred bucks out of pocket for deductables of the ER and the Ambulance is a lot to pay for picking up that penny.

I learned from his mistake. That was back around the year two thousand before he died, I wonder how much it would cost now to pick up a penny.

If it is not more than a dime, screw it.

It's called "Stuck with Luck" ...about a boy who has a Leprechaun appear out of nowhere (that no one else can see) after he picks up a penny while saying the rhyme. All manner of shenanigans ensue! It was a real page-turner to my 10-yr-old brain!

I still pick them just to see the year. Even if it’s not an oldie they go in the change jar.

We no longer have pennies in Canada.

But I'll pick up any change I see.

Never too good for free money.

Mind your nickels and dimes, and the dollars will take care of themselves.

I'm Canadian, here we don't have pennies anymore.
We have a 2 dollar coin and a dollar coin...we call them loonies and toonies.
Its called a loonie because it has a loon on it.
So hell yes, I'll pick them up if I see one.

I have a thing with change, I always break a bill and put the change aside.
Even if I have the change to pay for something, I always break a bill.
I had so much change once that I could barely lift the bag....I got almost $400. when I cashed it in.

I have to pick them up. It feels blasphemous not to. I was told once that not picking them up meant you didn't trust God.

I also cannot stand to waste !

I'm not proud and every little bit helps.
My neighbor however, that's another story.

He enjoys glueing quarters to the pavement to prank people. Lol.

I've done that as well and it always gets a laugh.
We used to use PL adhesive which I could glue a table to the ceiling if I wanted....its the strong stuff.

That is sad Rickymouse. I will take from your Uncle’s experience to check my surroundings before bending down for my next coin pickup.

We have dollar coins too, they are just not found in regular circulation at all. The paper dollar is used predominantly.

One time about 20 years ago there was a arcade/food place that had a claw machine with different coins in it: on my first try I captured a 1943 walking liberty half dollar. Those days of coins in arcade claw machines are long gone at this point I would imagine.

I pickup every coin i see. Part of the reason is i only pay in cash in person , ditched the banks, and always like to habe exact change. Plus i love coins in general, the original currency.

I only pay in cash and have never used a card for anything.
I had to get a credit card once so I could rent a hotel room, and I felt like an idiot.

You know whats even more fun then picking up surface coins?
Digging up coins

You know whats even more fun then digging up coins?
Digging up thousand year old coins

They look like crap, unless silver or gold. But it is such a great feeling to find something interesting and later at home finding out more about its history.
I can really recommend metal detecting, it's a great hobby.

I don't pick up and keep the pennies anymore.
If I see one that has tails up, I will flip it over to heads
and give the luck to someone who may need it more
than me. So one little penny makes two people
happy.

Not picking up money is disrespecting its value.

I've found quite a bit of money by just looking down.

I won't bother with a penny if I'm in a hurry
otherwise yes, I pickem.

some stores have coin exchange machines that kick out silver and foreign coins. found a couple silver dimes in those!!!
