Pennies are absolutely stupid. Nickels are next to worthless. Dimes are silly little pieces of metal and not worth the weight they pose in carrying them. Quarters are not even good for video games any more.

End the entire coin madness. The making change madness. I haven't been to an amusement park in over 40 years but even then, Disneyland had figured out that charging a buck for a coke was more profitable than charging 99 cents. That one penny difference added up labor costs in making change for a customer, taking time to break open a new roll of coins and then rolling them up again while counting out the till.

I see no reason to have coins at all. Go buck, two buck, five. And on up the list.

I throw coins into a fountain, but it is always with a prayer.

It's not throwing money away (on the ground), it is a gift for those passed, and a prayer.

I NEVER throw money away!!

And, I will always pick up discarded coins and money....always!

(I've probably picked up thousands of dollars in coins on the ground! My wife thinks I'm nuts, but I pick up ever single one I see, even if it's just a single penny.)

Completely agree FCD. I feel like if I were to step over free money laying on the ground then fate will have the last laugh.

Only if there’s a ”National Coin Shortage” happening at the moment.

Ok.

You do know tax rates are added to that coke/dr pepper which make it more than a dollar and requires change if the person has only paper money?

Funny story from last week. I have in my possession a 1 dollar bill which i received in change from dunkin donuts. It caught my attention because it has a star in the serial number and I keep reprints. Also it feels dense like construction paper, but far more durable. The ink looks like a little worn as if it has been through the wash a couple thousabd times, but i can still clearly read it says Series 2000. I go to the coin collection site to check its rarity -- SURPRISE! RAREST BILL ON THE PLANET! This bill is so rare that there is no series 2000 $1 bill. Literally someone is out there counterfeiting $1bills. bwahahaha!

Right, but that coke in Disneyland had the tax built in. So it was 93 cents for the soda, an 6 cents for the tax so they just raised to price to 94 cents.

I often forget that most states have sales tax as my state does not. I you buy something for five buck, it cost you five bucks.

I have never been to Disneyland thank goodness. If I did though, between rides I would pickup any coins I found.

I do pick up change on the ground. I also drop by every wishing well within a two hundred mile diameter every week. On the weekends I hit up malls, shopping centers. You would be surprised what people drop when you accidentally bump into them, or what they leave dangling halfway out of their pockets.

Just kidding, but I do pick up money.

I enjoy picking up lost coins and notes. When I get home I check the dates and mintage of the coins. If I double or triple my money I'm happy. Better than bank interest.

Kind regards,

Bally

Yep, I pick them up and save them along with pocket change.

When I cleaned out my truck when I had to sell it, there was about 60 bucks in change. Of course, I had the truck for over 15 years, my longest relationship ever and I got cash back...

"See a penny, pick it up.
All the day you'll have good luck.
See a penny, let it lay.
Bad luck will haunt you all the day."

Opening lines to a book I read as a child. Instantly think of it when I see a penny, followed by an immediate compulsion to pick it up, lol.

Can anyone name the book?

The radius measurement sounds especially painful compared to a penny. Ouch TMS.

I see a lot of lies in this thread.

A Coke at Disneyland for $1? I’d be skeptical if you said anything less than $5. Since you are a captive audience and will pay whatever is asked because you are thirsty.

Most important reason to pick up coins is you can make arrowheads or knife edges out of them in a survival situation.
