If its worth keeping, it is worth fixing. I love fixing stuff. Sometimes I buy broken stuff just to take the challenge of fixing it. I usually can fix it too.

I once bought a model A Ford for $3000.00. It hadnt been run since the 1960s. I put the motor together and detailed it up. When I was done, It ran like a top, and it took a ribbon in a car show.

Hows that look?

Hopefully $30 isnt much money to lose for you. I spent $39 on a single giant crab leg for my dinner last night. From now on, have people show you that an item works, before the money changes hands. Its ok to make a mistake, as long as you learn from it.

Who in their right mind buys second-hand electrical items without first seeing them working? I wouldnt buy anything like that until ive seen it plugged in and charging

Yeah. You should have plugged it in before handing over money and taking it off of the person's property.

*shrug* Lesson learned.

:/ oh well...

Ah..I didn't notice that.
Ok then the next step in diagnostics should be your battery.
Most auto parts and specialty battery stores offer free load testing diagnostics.
Just call around and ask b4 you waste the gas.
Some setups like powerwheels have a min voltage to activate charging. The charger senses it as a bad battery if it's too low on some chargers.
A load test can help you know the batteries condition.
Take the charger w you if you go in.
The charger should show up on the tester when plugged in when tester is set to read voltage of battery.
If not, you prob have a bad charger.
A voltage tester would be nice to test charger, if you know someone handy.

If the charger is like a wall wart or looks like a computer charger you could get the numbers off of it and match them to something on eBay. I do that all the time with my six grands battery powered toys. Usually pay around $8 to $18 bucks for one with "free" shipping. You need to know the input voltage (120Vac) and the output voltage (usually around 12Vdc). The wattage won't matter too much - the lower the wattage output will mean a longer charge time and vice versa. Match the charge plug, also, making sure the Positive pole is in the proper place like the positive is in the center and negative is on the outside with a round voltage output plug.
Back to the input voltage, I bought one, one time, that worked but when I plugged it up, it wouldn't charge. Got my magnifying glass out and read the input was 240Vac. I rigged a 240Vac outlet and got it charged and then I bought a 120Vac input charger and made it a lot more convenient.
Or, if you don't feel comfortable matching numbers, PM me and I will do it.

Well that sucks! My rule when buying used, or at a yard sale , is to always make sure the product works before leaving with it ….otherwise ,it’s at my own risk . If it needs power to run and the seller can’t supply that , ( to prove it works ) then I usually won’t buy it …. Once in awhile you find a nice seller who will allow you to bring it back for a refund if it doesn’t work when you get home , but that’s a conversation to have before you leave with the product …. I know I’m not telling your anything you don’t already know , and it sucks you got stuck. Sorry …

Try screwing around with the charger cord.
Maybe there’s a break in the inside you can’t see and the wire has to sit just right to make a connection.

Alternatively, try a different charger.
Not sure what type it is, but see if something you have, like a drill or modem, has the same kind of charger.
If the voltage matches try swapping them.

If this is something like Facebook marketplace you can leave a review of the seller.
I always look at the sellers rating when I want to buy something.

I always buy expensive items from total strangers, with no pictures or nothing.
I have not been fooled yet.

One needs some excitement and i like the gamble.

Me too, totally good experiences and deals even with sending a large down payment an waiting a month or so til I could afford the rest. The only weird one was a set of beautiful, free, dining room chairs. Guy said he was out of town, messaged that he was back and gave me the address, I went a few hours later, he didn't live there, then messages as I was driving home, no chairs. Strange for a freebie. Can see someone doing that with a down payment scam but free?
