According to The Washington Post, the Republican Congressman was on a ‘rogue evacuation mission,’ ignoring warnings from the State Department not to travel to the country.

BREAKING NEWS: OK Congressman Markwayne Mullin is MISSING near Afganistan

Allegedly, Mullin was trying to fly into Afghanistan, via a helicopter, from neighboring country Tajikistan, to rescue a family. Because of the large amount of cash he was carrying and Tajikistan's laws on carrying large amounts of cash, Embassy staff in Tajikistan denied his request for help in transportation to Afghanistan...so he allegedly got pissed off and threatened them and the American Ambassador to Tajikistan.

“Embassy officials told Mullin they could not assist him in skirting Tajikistan’s laws on cash limits on his way to visiting one of the most dangerous places on earth,” the Post reported.

“As of late Tuesday, U.S. officials said they were unsure of Mullin’s location. Mullin’s office did not respond to multiple requests for comment,” the report continues.

Further, this is Mullin's second attempt to enter Afghanistan...

This is still developing.

What better way to make yourself incredibly popular in the states right now than to MacGyver into Afghanistan and save a family? And how would you do it? Money.

A highstakes bid for the hero vote is my cynical guess.

That's two Congressional heroes missing this week. It's too bad Biden tied the hands of our military while they were engaged in the evacuation process.

Valid. I sure hope he is in hiding and not captured.

No American left behind.
This guy still believes in it...even though Biden could care less.

I don't know the man like you do, so I can't postulate his reasons.
But I do share his patriotism and humanitarian effort on saving this family.
If I didn't know better, I would say that Pelosi may have had a hand in his troubles.
My prayers are with Congressman Mullin.

I can't help but wonder if the entire thing is just a ruse. I'm not saying it is, and this is based off nothing more than the immediate thought that popped into my head, but it just seems like he was making an awful lot of noise with this attempt.

Carrying a boatload of cash with him pretty much ensured that the word of his travels would quickly get out, which is pretty stupid considering where he was going, especially since he has no real back-up protection. On the other hand, the manner in which he went about this ensured that everyone would find out how much of a hero he is.

The reality of it seems to be that he is either incredibly stupid for attempting it in this manner, or pretty dam smart for tricking people into believing he did.

If it turns out that it is legit, and he does successfully accomplish his goal of saving whoever it is he's after, I'll still say he was stupid for thinking he could go in there like Rambo, but he just got lucky and somehow managed to pull it off.

The odds are clearly stacked against him.

ETA: I will also add that none of the above↑ will apply if he was smart enough to use some of that money to hire an experienced group of well-armed soldiers (maybe former Special Ops guys) to join him on this mission, but based off what small amount I have read, I see no mention of anything like that.

In that part of the world cash is definitely king! He may need to hire protection, make bribes, hire helicopters/aircraft. It would take a lot of cash to pull it off

Yeah, but that's not something that should be made public knowledge, at least not while it is happening. That's the type of thing that should be kept on the downlow.

Why was he over there to begin with?

Because feckless/reckless Joe Biden's administration has dropped the ball. Into a sewer.

Biden's State Department should all be tried for treason. The intelligence community, the military brass? They are equally culpable. They all broke their oath to the Constitution. They serve only themselves.

Guess what... ?

We're next. Mark my words.

update: Meredith Blanford, communications director for Congressman Markwayne Mullin, released a statement to the Tulsa World late Tuesday, saying the following:

“Congressman Mullin has been and is currently completely safe. He and the Office of Oklahoma’s Second District will continue to do anything in our power to bring home all Americans from the war zone that President Biden abandoned. The safety and security of the American people will always be his top priority. We have no further comment at this time.”

Blanford did not say whether Mullin is out of the country, and she neither confirmed nor denied the information in the Washington Post story below.

Beautifully done.
A thread about a missing congressman.
A post bringing an update from the congressman's own office

And you? What prompted that bold accusatory outburst.

He'll end up with no money and a bargaining chip for the Taliban. Pay up x amount and we might just save his ass...or he might just end up in the wrong movie wearing orange overalls.

Guy sounds like a moron.

I agree, the smart play was to just let the Americans left behind die.

Idk that's way too high stakes. Chances of being robbed or killed are pretty high.
