Interesting. Thanks! But I’ll believe it when I see it. China also announced 6 months ago (?) that they were going to build another moon. Haven’t heard or seen anything about that lately, but there was that Chinese space lab that fell out of orbit that had so many people worried.

They dont call Mars the "Red planet" for nothing.

It seems to me that as a Russian who survived the time of communism, there is nothing wrong with the fact that communist China wants to be the first in some space programs. Another thing is that China is no longer communist in the standard sense. He's not even communist at all. Now the time is coming when the ideological husk can no longer capture the majority of minds. Reality always wins.

Then how come china is being run by a communist party?

Another misleading thread title from you

Do you keep score? Probably for that. in order to accumulate material later and report to the site moderator?
If you don't want to chat with me, then why are you answering my threads? This is weird. Are you afraid of me?

He pointed out how your claim in your thread is incorrect.

Aye they call it the "Dead Planet" as well.

Not just because the conditions there will kill us in no time sharp but because it has no active magnetic core.

China is still 100% communist, they just put on a shiny capitalistic face.

Everything of value in China has ties to the government.

There was a theory that went like this. If a space ship took off in 1970 for some distant solar system later space ships would have overtaken it long before it had neared its destination, so any commitment to today's tech is bound to be a draining waste of time and money as the new tech comes online. Corporate billionaires like immediate and concrete rewards. Like Branson selling a ticket for what amounts to a fairground ride. As more research knowledge becomes available and computer simulations get going. I think the first attempt at a base on the moon, will be using robots to prefabricate any bases. They might even be the only presence of anything from Earth due to the biology of humans. In fact, the Moon might be the only place we go to simply because a simulator on Earth could operate a robot, with little signal delay. Whatever the base looks like it will have to be a terrestrial copy simply because our biology and psychology might not operate outside its terrestrial parameters. So either way, until robotics are far more advanced than they are now not a lot can happen.

We start at the moon, it's easy with our current tech. It's stated that it's hard, but that's simply not true. A nokia flip phone from the 90's has more computing power than the apollo missions that took man to the moon. Look what happened, people went to the moon, and came back, a few times.

Making a lunar base is crucial for our advancement into space, we can launch from there with minimal effort.

Yes but factories and minerals would have to be extracted on site. The whole lot fuel for the ships as well. That is decades away, at least until robots can fix themselves. Even with tomorrow's tech, see the problem of mining in a spacesuit. That's providing nobody is doing it already. Judging by the interior state of the moon it could have been mined out already. At some stage, the question has to be asked if the UFOs are a fact who owns them, with that level of technology anything we do might be moot before anything is started. In other words, it might have already been done. By the people, the air force seems to have a video off in ships that can disappear and appear again sixty miles away in a moment.

The dust may be a little bit of an issue, never mind the lack of atmosphere and extreme temperature swings.

The moon wont be "easy" by any manner nor means.

Closest thing we have down here is Antarctica and that's certainly not "easy" even with our current technology.

Not that i don't agree on the Moon, but nothing easy is seldom worth the bother unless its cheese on toast.

We've discovered volcanic tunnels on the moon, dust isn't an issue down there.

We created biosphere 2 and successfully ran it, until Pauly Shore found it and grew some pot.

They eventually had to send in men without hats to get him out, chaos ensued

You ever been in a tunnel that's not dusty Vector99, kind of gets about.

Did we create "biosphere 2" in the likes of Antarctica?

Nope.

We will eventually colonies the Moon but it wont be easy to accomplish by any manner nor means.

To think otherwise is simply short-sighted.

And dont expect to do Mars anytime soon unless we learn to build a better Human, no matter what the likes of Musk and his ilk claim.

Mars is way off, at least 20 years.

The moon IS easy, we have all the tech needed to do it. We have more tech than needed actually, we could be sending probes to get the process started.

The moon takes 2-3 days, Mars takes 6 months minimum (with current tech), and that window is only open every couple of years.

The moon will indeed be our launching point, and the sooner we start working on it the better.

If China does it first, props on them.

I imagine we will colonise and industrialise low Earth Orbit somewhat before considering a permanent base on the Moon.

Thing is we have yet to devise a cost effective means of launching Man and machine in to orbit.

Nobody is really going to be doing much until that problem is addresses dead and buried.

Like i said all the same nothing "easy" about the Moon or space as they are both some of the most hostile environments know to man.

If China does it first it will be because they have the will to do so, and if we are left all back of the bus it will be nobody's fault but our own.

LEO colonization is much harder than colonizing the moon. This thing called gravity gets in the way.

Cost is simply a number we put on such ventures.

Many people hate to hear his name, but Musk is making huge progress when it comes to space exploration. He's a billionaire that actually gets it, venturing out from earth is required for the survival of our species.

We put so much trust into our little basket, yet all it takes is one big rock heading towards earth to make everyone have a really bad day.

We have the ISS, we know what the effects of zero g is on the human body, we need gravity of some kind, or we wither away and die. The moon offers that, and we can get there in a couple days.

Ask Elon Musk if he thinks its going to be easy? LoL

Like i suggest nothing worth while seldom is.

I agree on the all our Eggs in the one basket thingamabob.

The Moon's surface gravity is about 1/6th our Earths and us semi intelligent monkeys did not evolve under such conditions, so although it will be helpful in some areas, not so much in others especially given our biological needs.

Would zero g be more detrimental than 1/6g?

I think zero g would be a bit worse, seeing as astronauts and cosmonauts have to rigorously exercise daily in zero g to fend off the dehabilitation that occurs in zero g.

In 1/6 gravity, at least there is gravity,

Yes.

But you have to understand that Humans exist and can survive within a very specific atmospheric pressure and gravitational envelope down to the condition under which our species evolved down here on Earth.

Taking us out of such for any length of time is going to present all sorts of physical and biological issues to contend with.

The astronauts on the ISS do rigorous exercise each day and they are still rubbered when the return to Earth.

My point being we will most light be able to adapt and overcome some of the obstacles other planets and deep space present but it will by no manner nor means be "Easy", in point of fact it will be quite the opposite.
