I've tried. I was monitoring several storm chasers and the emergency services. I can't get anything from any of them for hours now. That's why I'm here. Thank you and please don't stop praying. a reply to: JAGStorm
Please seek shelter as conditions are rapidly deteriorating in Mississippi. Downed trees and powerlines are a significant concern throughout the night. Due to the extreme weather conditions, law enforcement response times will be delayed.

From what I have read it is a complete power outage in many areas. No cell phone, no electric.... Hope all is well with your family sincerely.
Another example of a flaw in newer technology that would not be an issue with older technology. A landline would probably be working just fine.

People think I’m crazy, but I still have a landline. It works during our crazy blizzards here when all else is down.

Interesting! We had no power for 10 days and I had a landline back then and many in the neighbourhood who had opted for cell and cordless phones had to use mine. I always wondered why it still worked after that storm hit but I guess the phone company infrastructure wasn't damaged and they kept the lines going.

I'm a commercial electrician and I live on the gulf coast. Neither cell nor land lines work without power. I spent many months installing generators at cell towers after Katrina and Ivan and that will work in a limited capacity. Usually only for emergency services not everyone. Land lines will not work if they loose power. If your lights go out but you still have a working land line that means the phone company still has power. The phone company has always had a better than you and me relationship with the power company. It's critical that they do, even now when they do not seem to be as important as they once were but they are.
