The US certainly has the brains and means to do better than to be routed in such a ridiculous way. So yes, any administration could do better (including the present administration) and there is no excuse for the way the rout (not even retreat) was handled.

I agree with many who say we never should have dug in there, in Afghanistan. It was an ill-conceived mission from the start. But that doesnt mean that the Biden administration should have screwed up the withdrawal as they did. I wont get into the lives lost, damage done, material lost, international trust destroyed.

In fact the rout was so badly done that it really seems intentional, whether it is or not. Either option is horrifying.
