I think the number is something like 80k Afghani's that we abandoned through either malfeasance or incompetence. Neither bodes well, and are both the perfect launch pad for anti-US propaganda from China.
I don't disagree that it's a horrid situation.
The major difference is we have no long term interest in Afghanistan, it was a case of spending good money after bad.
“When Taliban fighters entered Kabul on Aug. 15, they didn’t just seize control of the Afghan government. They also gained the ability to control access to huge deposits of minerals that are crucial to the global clean energy economy.
In 2010, an internal US Department of Defense memo called Afghanistan “the Saudi Arabia of lithium,” after American geologists discovered the vast extent of the country’s mineral wealth, valued at at least $1 trillion. The silvery metal is essential for electric vehicles”

Only problem there is the projected demand is going to go off the charts in the next few years.

Naw, we are practicing the “art of war” let your enemy think you are weak when you are strong.
But then again Biden is pretty weak, ugh we’re F’ed.

It just goes to show, the purpose was never to win, or takeover that area or keep anyone safe. We did what we wanted and bounced!

Yeah, but they aren't backing up what you claimed to get from some guy you knew who showed you some things.

Nah, the mistake was pulling out in the middle of the night without telling the afghanistani army and leaving behind all the cool stuff. And apparently even the state dept and contractors…
Weird huh?

However they eventually will however. Lithium is relativity rare and nonrenewable. And if the world goes to all electric vehicles I would fear they run the risk of tapping out the supply. If anything they should be telling all the car companies to be looking at and working on alternate technologies now. Get off the lithium and extend out into the future when it starts to run out.
They shouldn't be wasting lithium on rechargeable cars. Sorry Tesla.
