First, there is no such thing as a socialist economy. That statement is stupid. what socialism is where the people use their production for shared gains. Most countries have some forms of socialism for example universal healthcare. Everyone puts towards healthcare for all. In fact, the US tax system is based on socialism. Your income or the amount of your production determines how much you pay towards government services.

See your under the mistaken belief that socialism is about a form of government in fact its not. Its about who holds the power from their production. Capitalism profits go to the business owners or land ownder. Socialism profits go to social services and workers. And communism the profits go to the state who is obligated to care for the workers.

Now many view Sweden as socialist. However, the country is, in fact, very pro-capitalism, but does it with redistribution through taxes (sort of a highbred approach). Personal income is taxed at a rate of 61.85 percent, plus a 7 percent social security tax rate for employees. On top of these taxes, Sweden also has a 25 percent consumption tax. For these sacrifices of financial freedom, this is what Sweden offers their citizens in benefits:

Pension for all starting at 50
Health care free for everyone
Unemployment Insurance You get your full wage up to 1 year
Education through Ph.D. Level
Child Day Care
Very generous leaves of absence from work with benefits including: education up to 6 months, starting your own company up to 6 months off, parental leave up to 16 months with 80 percent of your pay during time off
16 public holidays (10 of these holidays are Christian-based, even though just five percent of the population are regular church attendees).

Oh, and it's illegal to work over 48 hours a week.

So arguing when I said Sweden is probably closest to socialism just shows how clueless of the world you truly are.

First i dont support socialism never have i just understand why it can be apealing to people. You see it here in ATS people complain when Bill Gates or Jeff bezos use their money to change public policy. Capitolism also has it flaws as well. Think how popular people like Jeff Bezos, Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg why do we know these names? Because they use their money to alter government policies. Like right now all the anti vaxers hate Bill Gates for promoting vaccines. Capitolism will always create a 1 percent that controls everything. Whos on the lism may change but they are always there.

And it a capitolist society 40000 amarricans die every year from not being able to afford medical care. no policy is perfect each have severe problems. I suspect in the future we will have to find a new way to provide for people. Probably a mix of capitolism and socialism. Or someone may invent somthing new but i will tell you if changes arent made eventually capitolism turns to socialism which turns to communiesm and when that fails back to capitolism.

Unfortunately every single one of them fails in at least one way or another for one common reason - human beings and their intent to exploit and manipulate for their own personal gain, advancement and advantage.

I'm sure I don't need to give examples of the failings of socialist and/or communist regimes - I could give examples of the benefits of some socialist policies in mixed economies but it'd probably take too long and many on here would just simply ignore - but its worth reminding people that capitalism and free trade etc have greatly contributed to Third World debt and many of the social injustices and inequalities that are crippling this world at present.

For balance I think its also worth mentioning that capitalism is not responsible for ALL of the world's problems, not by a long shot.

Its all far more complicated than the simplistic world view many have.

Exactly nicely said. Human nature is the problem ultimately whatever form of government their are individuals who want to consolidate money and power and can never get enough. Socialism communism or capitalism will never solve all the problems I have a feeling maybe some of each may be the ultimate solution. However, before that, we have to change people. People have to care for everyone, not just themselves. And I'm not sure that's possible

I don't think its much coincidence that countries with mixed economies consistently come top of places with the best quality of life and overall standards of living.
There needn't always be such a clash and conflict between ideologies, they can work together taking the 'best' or most appropriate from the respective viewpoints.

However before that we have to change people. People have to care for everyone not just themselves.

And if we ever do achieve that then I suspect the only form of 'government' we'd need would be Anarchism....but we are so far away from that being possible.

Like for example universal healthcare, I think everyone should have access we have 40000 die a year because of lack of healthcare. I see no reason a country should let that happen.
