Nothing is ever easy in life. We work, we struggle, we live and we often die and die badly.

But nothing is ever easy.

I've spent the last week in the midwest. Almost two weeks ago my father-in-law fell ill. Just out of the blue. A vibrant, energetic elderly gent laid low.

Colon cancer. And it just hit him all at once. My wife, his only child, and I scrambled last week to set up the house, our son, supplies, travel, ticket purchases, and flew out this past weekend where we spent days inside hospitals, doctors offices, banks (his finances) and finally came his major surgery which was today. A double bowel resection.

He's still kicking but I had to fly back this morning to tend to things back home, take care of work drama (My Gunthers needed guidance).

My bride is still back in the heartland of the US with her father. Depending on how he recovers, if he recovers, will depend on how fast I get back out there.

Yeah, I'm tired. I wish I could rant and whine, and bitch and complain and rage.

But I caught myself as I was putting words to paper (as it were).

Nothing in life is easy. Nothing in life is guaranteed that it will be easy.

I, like my wife, will suck it up, we will do what we have to do because it has to be done.

So many people suffer so many things every day and they don't say a word. They know that life isn't easy. They know that life is hard.

Our life got harder these past several days.

Life is hard.

I need to suck it up. Work with whatever is thrown at us and deal with it.

And maybe, just maybe. . . . people can learn that life is not easy, nor will it ever be.

Thoughts and prayers with you and family.

The only easy thing to do is give up, the rest might be hard work but it makes life worthwhile when you come out the other side stronger.

Thank you.

I think it's the struggle that makes life worth living. If we never struggle, then what's the use or value in life?

I think Thomas Paine said it best:

“The harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly; it is dearness only that gives everything its value. I love the man that can smile in trouble, that can gather strength from distress and grow.”

Hats off to you sir.

Well said and not much more to add.

Life sure isn't easy but some of us, myself certainly, need to remember that our lives are easier than others.
Count our blessings, as it were.

Regards to you and yours.

I'm so sorry, DBC! I wish I could help in some way.

No, life isn't easy. It certainly isn't for the faint of heart. But don't you ever give up...that's the easy way out. Who knows what good the future holds.

You and your family are in my prayers. May all go well.

Blessings,
J

That was frickin' awesome.

Depending on where he is, there are some pretty darn good cancer centers out in the heartland. I wish him all the best.

I work now in a position to see the sorts of things cancer patients have to undergo (not counting my own familial experiences with it), and it's rough. Stay strong as a family. Nothing is easy, but easy things aren't appreciated quite the same way as coming through the hard things, even the ones we wish we never had to come through.

Hopefully, in the end, there's a reward for how hard life has been.

Hopefully...

You and yours will be in my thoughts and prayers. You are a strong person and you will get through this. You and your bride will get the family through this. Buy taking care of the home front, you are helping the Mrs a lot.

Need to rant? You are more than allowed to do so here. Stay strong, and if you can't... that's very much ok too.

I hope so. I want to be there with her but we can't just avoid the responsibilities at home. The bills, the house, our son (even though he's 18).

We just have to stay strong.

And there it is. It has to be done, and you are there to do it. Do it well, get it done, and move on to the next challenge.

Adapt, improvise, overcome. If you need help, ask. Good luck brother.

It's all we can do; keep moving on and take it one day at a time.

Sometimes I think about those disturbed spirits wondering and watching us. I bet they would do anything for a second chance to be back and deal with our daily problems.
