In a new report by UK ministers, poor white kids are far worse of in terms of getting into higher education, than any other ethnic group. As far as the numbers....poor Asian kids are around 60% and poor white kids are 16% likely to go to higher education.

This is what I and others have been saying for years. It aint race....its class. To further break it down, rural peeps got it even worse off than city peeps.
Its the same in the US I bet.
One minister goes so far as to as to say the term white privilidge should be abolished.

That shows me that it is about ethnicity, which is a thing when it comes to how each one handles certain aspects of society. I suspect the numbers would be similar here being that Asian culture places a higher value on the family unit and education than most others.

Spot on lakenheath24
Total nonsense from the MSM trying to spruce things up as per usual, it just happens that a lot of white kids happen to live in areas that were previous coal mines, ships building, metal bashing zones where the jobs went but the people didn't move on.

In addition to which I've known quite a few Asian kids when I was young and they all did well non of them are dollies or benefits cheats, one even ended up a lawyer and his Sikh dad died when he was young and his cleaner mum brought him up with hardly any wealth yet he now has a practice in Australia where they can earn double the UK dosh! He worked for it though, they work hard and study hard, it's in their culture really

Nope not at all.

British Asians nearly all come from the Indian sub continent but there is marked differences between the religious differences.................. Sikhs economically do much better than muslims yet they are from the same place. Culture is what it's all about

Well this just creates more problems doesn’t it. who’s going to pay for the sins of people who have long been dead then?

Surely every single ‘poor white kid’ who is yet to be born is still going to be punished, right?

If not, why not?

You actually going to try and tell me that Indians don't place an emphasis on family, education and hard work?

Let me sit down...

Yeah for sure yet a British Sikh will do better than a British Muslim even though they originate from the same place originally. It's culture don't ya know

Sure, but that's not what the MSM wants us to hear.

My peeps are from Eastern Kentucky, and AppAm's aint got no privilege. The coal industry was gutted and so was the society. Its why that area is so bad for drugs.

So the cities get all the money and the country kids get nuthin.

That was in the report as well. Nobody sees a way out and they just quit. So thats where the family unit comes in and where Asians to better.

Betcha most of these kids are from single parenting as well, but thats another thread.

The point is they will do better than the poor white person because they have a better familial unit that places an emphasis on education and hard work.

I dont think so, I think it just highlights that race aint the problem as much as wealth does.

Rich kids gonna get better schools and ops regardless of race. Look at UK politics, all privately educated, but dumb as rocks. (Apologies to rock's)

I was a poor white kid and i have never been knocked back for any of the courses i applied for both at college and university.

Helps that's i had ok marks and could articulate fluently at any interviews i received all the same.

But unconditional offers were 10 a penny back then, which was the late 90s, maybe its changed since then, but i have to say i was never held back from education down to poverty, class nor colour.

Sikhs do real well mate and it was the same in British east Africa where many of our current British Sikh populations come from when they were kicked upby the racist regime post independence.

They do well everywhere it same from many like the Hindus

Weird thing is our blacks from the Caribbean generally don't do that well in comparison with African blacks like Ghanains Nigerians Malians who very much excel here, totally weird and is down again to the cultures they come from

White kids have had it bad here as they find themselves largely in coal steel textile pockets where the jobs went, but they didn't leave / couldn't leave and suddenly their reason for being went and it all went tits up. Round here it's chaos the white kids are drugged up collapsing in the streets totally left behind causing trouble thieving while Asian kids generally are doing well. I someone had said that 40 years ago they'd have thought you'd lost the plot. I don't thing much more can be done now, it's all gone tits up like the Kentucky's you mentioned in the above

aye Class is conveniently not a protected characteristic in the UK equality act 2010 so its perfectly ok to discriminate against poor people.

Surely because there are more white kids in the UK who are poor means there are going to be a higher number of them not attending higher education because they are a majority compared to other ethnic minority groups of poor kids?

Or am I just not getting it , they used the same sample size for all groups or what ?

I had Pakistani and India friends in class that actually used to end up in tears, and almost frantic over the thought of a failed assessment, or exam mark, to the point where one of them was physically sick down to the expectations there family had placed in them and what would happen if the failed.

When we failed something, we got told better try harder, that's not on, get it done and done right, from our parents.

They poor sods take education seriously, when they fail its a stigma not just a bad day, so there is that.

There work ethic is far superior to ours in some respects and draconian beyond belief in other areas.

I never thought fear to be the greatest of motivators where learning is concerned all the same.

Well, I think you're confusing some things related to culture and class here. You've chosen an interesting (perhaps unintentional) way to do it too!

I've worked for years with both Muslim and Indian cultures, in Asia, in a former British Colony to boot, so I speak from experience.

On the one hand you have Sikh's who have built nearly their entire culture around money and they've been quite successful at it too. If your name is "Singh" your family heritage demands you will go work in the financial world, in one form or another. So, is this culture, or class? On the other hand, common Muslims, even in British culture, do not place the same emphasis on money. However, I would put forth they are even more family oriented than the Indian culture. Consequently, they generally reside in a different class than the Singh's of the world. So, once again, is this class or culture?

I would argue it's a little bit of both.
