What does not kill you makes you stronger

Rubbish.
Convenient saying employed by people who need to explain away poor choices.
Tell me the person who stepped out in front of the bus and became a quadriplegic as a result thinks that or the junkie who looks ravaged from his/her habit thinks that, etc, etc.
What doesn't kill you simply doesn't kill you.

So , you say that a person could not become stronger under those conditions .
That is an ignorant thing to say.
You think only in physical strength terms , don't you ?

I have been short of breath (leaving me like a person suffering from emphysema), I have lower digestive tract issues and the covid 'brain fog'. My doctor says that the breathing issues could last for months, if they ever get better at all.

You might consider it if you couldn't walk up a short flight of stairs without stopping, with your lungs heaving.

Many of those people become suicidal.
And don't forget PTSD.
Ask those people if they are stronger after experiencing non fatal trauma.
