Atheism is not an affirmative belief that there is no god nor does it answer any other question about what a person believes. It is simply a rejection of the assertion that there are gods.

That sounds more like agnosticism

Atheism is too often defined incorrectly as a belief system. To be clear: Atheism is not a disbelief in gods or a denial of gods; it is a lack of belief in gods.

Yeah thats agnosticism. Atheism is the belief that God does not exist. If you are uncertain whether or not God exists, that's agnosticism.

Atheism is lack of belief. That’s it. That’s all it is.

Feel free to make me believe.

Agnosticism is the default position of “I don’t know”, “I’ll believe it if you can prove it”.

How do you know we didn’t create ourselves?
...

Because it is logically incoherent if you're talking about the origin or beginning of something, like mankind. If one is talking about the subject where did we (mankind) come from, or how did mankind first emerge on the scene, you can't point to mankind as the cause for that effect. At the time (just before) mankind emerged, or began to exist, there was no mankind to cause anything yet, let alone create itself (or anything for that matter, if something doesn't exist yet, it can't do anything).

The same counts for the notion of the universe creating itself as philosophical naturalists like Stephen Hawking* claim (*: in his book The Grand Design when speaking about the origin of the universe, identifying said universe with this "grand design"). Here's John Lennox explaining the issue with the notion of "X creates X" (at 2:50):

Of course, this should be really obvious, so then the question arises, why do some people not realize this right away when making such claims or thinking about these notions of something creating itself, or something being the cause for its own beginning or origin when it doesn't even exist yet to cause or do anything?

Another question that one could consider, are some intelligent people, like Stephen Hawking, already well aware of this (because they aren't stupid) as they make these sort of claims or promote such notions as supposedly being rational? Making every effort with sophisticated rhetoric to hide the reality that they're promoting nonsense? Are these intelligent 'scientists'* taking advantage of those who are inclined to believe such nonsense (is 'clever', 'rational') because it happens to tickle their ears and they are easily impressed and beguiled by those type of prominent considerably hyped figures in the sciences? (*: primarily acting as philosophers as they promote these illogical notions/ideas/philosophies) That is, hyped as "the intellectual figureheads of our culture", as explained in the last video of this comment (the playlist link at the very end).

More of the same nonsense:

I hate arguing semantics so I dunno why I even got into this. But one last question. What is it called when someone believes there is no such thing as God/gods?

Personal philosophy.

Hard atheist.

I am aware of the evolution of the word atheist/atheism to the current acceptable definition of “lack of belief”.

Some older dictionaries even define it as Devil worship. Which is ironic — cuz you’d first have to believe in God to believe in the Devil.

A student of science. Upon successfully graduating they become an atheist, or they politely partition their spirituality as a matter of individual pursuit as opposed to professional study specializing in the quantification of ethereal life forms.
