I have done that for my kids. In NC it was easy enough.

But this should be a good lesson, treat those documents like gold.
If you don't have them, you can't buy a beer, get on a plane, or any number of other things.

Parents don't have it. I had the only physical copy.
I don't have any forms of id at the moment except printed copies.

I wish they would except the printed color copy of my florida driver license but they wont.

I was told my parent can get the real copy of my birth certificate so I'm going to try that next.

How much does it cost to get your birth certificate?

Never mind, it's ~$20.00.

Yes indeed.

40 years old lived in the same town all my life. Never needed anything more than my id or ss card. Had printed copies of them all.
Lost the lock box on the move to sc. Had so much that I can't replace and all my id stuff. No idea how or when I lost it.
I think I left it and my ex-landlord through it away. She said she throw anything we left in the trash without even looking at it.

Do you need an actual physical id to get your birth certificate or just the number. In Texas, you can order your birth certificate online and prove your identity with your dl number and ssn.

you can order a copy of your birth cert online. I think it is 15.00 or was last time I had to get one.

Got lucky with my son, when he lost his ID.
The SOS here in MI let me go to the library, who in turn let me borrow a copy of his high school yearbook, and bring it back to the SOS as proof of who he was.

And we needed a piece of mail with his address on it, but I can't remember if that was for the SOS, or the Social security office.

That kid lost his stuff, every six months.
Until I got smart and made copies of everything he had. Then he stopped losing it.

You can go online and get a new copy of your social security card mailed to your current address. I got a new one just by going online and asking for one.

I'd go online and order a replacement of your former drivers license. They may mail it to your former address, but if you put in a change of address that last's for 6 months it should be forwarded to you. If you know the people at that address you can ask them to mail it to you.

Employer have a photo ID badge? Have an old photo ID from work? (I save those back to my college photo ID from the 70's)

As for your birth certificate, try getting it online and scan one of the copies you have of those documents to order a new birth certificate.

Lots of times doing it online works better than calling. Online will usually accept scanned copies and if you have copies of any of those documents try doing it online and scanning your copy into the online form.

As for voting many places will accept a copy of a utility bill in your name with your new address on it.

Online is the way to go, especially if you have copies of any of those documents, just scan them like you would have the original.

Let us know what works! Good luck, but I have a feeling that requesting new items online may be the way to go by scanning your copy of your drivers license and submitting it electronically.

I've had to do it a few times. It wasn't difficult just a huge pain in the ass.

I had to get the Virginia DMV to get my driver's license information from the Tennessee DMV, and then I had to contact the vital records office in Tennessee to get a replacement birth certificate, and then after that I just contacted the SSA to get a new social security card. I think all I needed was a proof of address, and some utility bills.

All states allow you to replace birth certificates in person or by mail. Regardless of which method you decide to use to get your birth certificate, you will need to provide specific items, such as: A completed birth certificate request form. A check or money order for applicable fees.

Now that I have learned how hard it really is to get these things if you start with nothing, I am done believing that propaganda bs.

Kind of convenient that the only box you lost was the one that had your ID, Driver's License, and birth certificate inside of it, huh?

Good thing you didn't get pulled over.

Yes officer, one moment while I dig around for the box that I store my driver's license in.

My suggestion for the future... Stop using a box and start using a wallet.

Just tried to set up for a replacement license from florida. They can't find any of my florida addresses in their data banks......

But I was told that my parents can get a physical copy of my birth certificate. If that's true I'm all set.

Gosh, that's so unfortunate. Maybe we shouldn't have to get an ID anymore to vote. We can worry about banks, traveling, alcohol and tobacco purchases, ball games, courthouse entrances, etc. all at a later time.

Hopefully your parents get it worked out for you.

call the hospital you were born, get a copy of you birth certificate, go to DOT website of the old state, request a replacement ID mailed to your old address, make sure you have mail forwarding setup. Take new ID to new Dot and get new ID, along with BC, and utility bill. take new ID to SS office, and request replacement.

It wasn't the only thing I left.

i wasn't the driver when moving to the new state.

wallet? Because no one ever loses a wallet.

The box i left was a waterproof fire proof safe type of box.

Was your computer in the box too?

you can apply for some or all of it online. Once you get one go on to the next one but SS card seems the easiest you do know your number? But you can get a replacement South Carolina DL too

Hey, you may want to consider getting contacting ine of the identity theft businesses, and keep an eye on your credit score and bank account for a while.

I lost my wallet some odd years ago in a mall and it wasn't even a full day before I discovered that someone had already tried opened two new credit cards and tried using my debit and credit cards.

I had already locked my cards, but that didn't stop them from getting new credit cards.

Unless things have changed in FL, there was a way to get a replacement ID mailed to you. Something similar happened to me when I moved from FL to TN about 17 years ago. They had a website I could go on, and with a few identifying questions, had a replacement in the mail for a small fee. They even (much to the dismay of some liquor stores) printed my mailing address as the address on the license. So I had a FL state license for a TN residence, made for some interesting conversation.

As for the DMV here in SC, they used to require physical SS card, they no longer do as of February I believe as I just got my license Feb 9th. I didn't have my SS card as it had been washed about 20 years ago and I haven't needed it for a job or anything as I always knew my number. They did not require my birth certificate either, only my ID from NC.

Hopefully that FL website is still available, as I think all you needed was to know your license number and a few other things. Then again with the rise in identity theft over the last 20 years, it wouldn't shock me to know it's no longer an option.

I think part of what the issue is, is the assumption that you want a REAL ID. They do require significantly more paperwork to get. Have you tried asking for a regular drivers license without the REAL ID star on it? The bar is quite a bit lower.

Hospital wont give birth certificate with out some other proof of id.

Florida wont send a replacement id without some way to prove who I am.

I have no proof of who i am at all.

Trust me I have tried all of these things that you and others are suggesting. I tried them all before I came to ats to ask for help.

While talking to the office in florida about what I need for a replacement dl I was told my parent can get my birth certificate. If that's true then that is all I need to get the rest.
