For his deeds he didn’t have to pay taxes the rest of his life.

Oh my goodness, can you imagine that?
Imagine if that was a prize for people, no taxes for the rest of your life!!!

My uncle show it to me in a law book in Nashville. My ancestor was in the fight with Andrew Jackson and lost his leg. Jackson helped him get the bill passed.

My great grandfather was nobility, county judge and governor. His both sons became a priests. Im related pretty much to every royalty of Europe. What was weird my hubby and i share ancestors from late 1700 and so we are related too ( happily not so close). One of my ancestors was a royal executioner for King of Sweden. For more recent history my fathers side there are 3 generation of genetigal deafness, my father and his siblings were all hearing ones. Also i found out that my father and my mother share ancestors too 1700 century too ( i was thinking this is insane when i discovered this ). One of the ancestors surnames were von Dönhoff and some of the sons were members of Knights of Teutonic Order... My great grandmother who was member of Scandinavian Congress of deaf met Helen Keller in person more than once.

I didn't know until recently, when I was told on ATS, my ancestry is part of the same Scottish Clan as Trump's mom.

Tell me something cool about your ancestry.

I'm not going to give percentages, but extrapolating from my
son's DNA test, it seems that I am Indonesian, East European,
Baltic, Finnish, Ashkenazi Jewish, North African, and Nigerian .

All of my 58 years I was told that my great great great grandmother was Cherokee.

In the oldest family Bible all of the information
Was fully documented.
It showed that I was 1/4 Indian.

After putting myself through college I was interested in this particular government job.

I applied as a minority (Indian) to give me a much needed edge and I was hired on with them.

Fast Forward to last year and a silly 23 & Me DNA test and surprise-Surprise!!!
I have No Indian in Me at All.

I am Irish, Celtic, German, Scandinavian and
Ashkenazi Jewish!!

BTW I had to take the 23&ME due to needing the medical genetic diseases information for my Son and Grands.
All the medical information and genetics are really fascinating.

My ancestors came to this country and worked under poor working conditions in the mines for peanuts till they got enough to buy their farms. Back then mineworkers had little rights, they were owned by the mines, the mines owned the stores and supplied the mine houses or boarding houses to the miners. But my great grandparents saved and bought some land and built their farms which allowed them to quit the mines later on and grow food for themselves and other people to survive. Then the kids later went to work at the mines when they actually paid better and had safer work conditions because of unions starting.

People talk about slaves but don't realize that many people who immigrated to this country became indentured to the banks and had to work hard under poor conditions to get anywhere. My grandpa used to say the slaves had it easier, they had housing and food supplied the same as farm workers still do in some places in this country.

Just because you get a paycheck does not mean you are not a slave to society and your bosses. Most times it is your debt that turns you into a slave though.

I would trust family documentation over 23&Me anyday. But, that being said, if your great-great-great-grandmother was Cherokee (it's always Cherokee, why?) You wouldn't even be close to 1/4 Indigenous.

My great grandfather is half native. That makes my grandfather 1/4 native, my father 1/8 native, and me 1/16th. So my children would be 1/32 native, and their children 1/64, or 1.5%, probably not even enough to pick up on the 23&Me test, which is notoriously not that great.

So true. Anytime an ancestry conversation is had people always say they have some Cherokee. My dad tried to say we do as well. I dont believe it.

Maybe it makes people feel badass or something.

Well I bet her great great great grandmother was a Cherokee PRINCESS, and Indigenous royalty math is different.

It does sound badass for some reason.

I don't know why people wouldn't pick a rich tribe (Shakopee), or a truly badass ass tribe (Comanche) to be descended from, but whatever floats peoples boats.

In Canada, I would get laughed at by literally anyone if I claimed to be Native because my great-grandfather was half Mi'kmaq. But in the states, I do notice that the cowboys and indians lore is really strong.

DB's trail of tears is the remains of all the lawn chairs and interns he's sat on.
