I agree and even asked my dad before what he thought the reason were they came over and he pretty much said the same thing. Thanks for sharing more of your story, it surely is interesting. Also glad that being a POW your grandad was at least treated well, not many people are that lucky.

Cheers! Yes, he was fortunate to have had a skill that was needed at the time. Though, his driving force, both as a POW and in his three years in Venezuela, was getting back to his family and provide a better life. Many, unscrupulous fathers and husbands, didn't fare so well, especially if captured by more unscrupulous adversaries; and I'm also talking about some women who twisted the minds of those fellows, enough to abandon their first loves and children.

I traced my lineage back to Adam and Eve.

Strangely enough, I'm related to Adam, but not to Eve. Not sure how that happened, might be where the iguana comes into the picture.
