One of my favorite pieces is an 1840's Philadelphia 'Hairy Clawfoot' mahogany game table.
It's in mint condition...and I bought it many years ago for only $400.

Nice. I have a small game table from the 1860's in my library that we use regularly for chess.

Wow, that’s amazing, can’t say I’m there yet, or ever will be. There are still things that peak my fancy.

It's more about self control, I can get a bunch more stuff on the cheap but I just don't want to have them for the sake of having them and clutter up the house. For a Victorian it's a bit of a minimalist approach from what you would have seen in the 1800's.

ETA: This is the back parlor and will give you an idea. The arm chair is now upstairs in the office and is the 'dog chair', it has been replaced by a period appropriate arm chair and foot stool:

Two both of you...WHAT is your 'White Whale' antique?

Probably that Meeks Gothic Revival chair I posted above, the Belter settee in the sitting room is also a rare piece. There was a Gothic Revival bookcase I missed out on back in the early 2000's which if it came up I'd buy in an instant.

The thing I missed out on...because I was in the middle of bidding...but had to run out in the middle of bidding and I missed it...was an amazing original Native American Totem Pole from the Pacific NW.

I would've had to build a new room for it...but I wanted it so badly.
It was insane...and I've never seen another like it.

Alright, that's a new one. I don't know anyone who has a totem pole.

Beautiful room.
I had a Hunzinger rocker, years ago.
So cool...I wish I never sold it.

(...and I'm not talking about DB).

It was the one that got away.....
Years ago I was in Lake Geneva IL, very touristy type of place. There was a small shop. They had the most jaw dropping gorgeous dinning room. It was quarter sawn oak (which is normally not my favorite) It appeared to be one of a kind, very unique, but not overly decorative, and not arts and crafts either. Had a European look to it but not overly done like some German pieces are.
Looked liked something a master carver made for himself/family type of thing. It was one of those pieces that you couldn’t take your eyes off of. I can’t believe I didn’t buy it. I think I had just bought another set or something like that. If I ever come across it again I will swoop so hard!! It was perfectly aged but in amazing condition, I am so silly for not getting it..

Nice. That Hunzinger set I got for a steal, it cost me more to reupholster and ship it then for the pieces themselves.

Very tasteful! Love the Victorian period and their love for color!

That fireplace is amazing too!

To Jagstorm:

Sounds like that set might have been Romweber.

Thank you.

That effing thing, along with all the other woodwork in the house, was painted with coats of white latex paint. If you zoom in you can see part of a cameo of the four seasons inside the mantel face.

No not Romweber.

I’ve seen a lot of different furniture and I had never seen a piece like that before. I really believe it was custom piece.

Two, because they also popcorned all the ceilings.

Looks like you've got some nice pocket doors...and the original push-button light switches.
I remember those from my Vic.

Yup. The pocket doors weigh about 100lbs each and are over 7' tall. I like playing, 'Oh, Miss Crabtree', with them.

It sounds like it was something very special.
You'll find it again...or it will find you.

I can't make out the Landscapes.
Who are the artists you like?

Right side is Albert Bierstadt and the left is Monet. Both of them are all over the house. I'm a huge fan of both and they are period appropriate as well.

There's a few more in the dining room...

The front parlor, which is now the billiard room, I did with railroad scripophily (stock certificates) and photos.

Beautiful home.

This is my pride and joy.
Got it about 6 years ago.

Nice. English, correct? I'm pretty sure I saw his work while in London.
