Not only prices

They are now lowering the grams per item....

For what was the norm

It felt like things are heading back to some normalcy.

I see what you did there. You added the word "back" where it doesn't belong yet didn't you?

West central lower Michigan here. I'd like to be in the loop for your observations in your area. Thanks.

... and I noticed many package sizes are down

An astute observation that deserves to stand alone for a second. Maybe others will start noticing and fast. I've been pointing this out to my wife when I see it ... like a broken record.

I think this is an orchestrated fail. We're being setup for the carpetbaggers.

The carpet baggers?
You mean like the reconstructed Old South? Those carpet baggers?

No wonder the song "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down" by "The Band" has been on my mind. I believe I have a new kind of respect for that song lately. To this day, they keep kicking down Ole Johnny Reb long after he lost the war, now they are after us Yankees.

*They* have always been after "us". Pretty clear who is on which side and how they go about it. Evident right here for how many years?

"because of regulations, and policies"...there are a brazillion un-elected regulators in DC that write all this stuff that affects you and I, that is one of the main problems of our system...and the elected ones don't even read what they vote for.

I don't do costco, I prefer sams club but from my experience this past year I always found Sam's club packed with people.
Home improvement stores were the same way.
A 2x4 is $6 though... Last year it was $2.49.

Construction materials are insane right now.

Why keep buying from big chains ?

We've been doing that when they were cheaper. No more.

Wife buy groceries from a local supermarket, affordable and good products.

If I need to go to a big chain, I go ALDI.

I have a couple of farmer's markets near.

If I can't find something, I can ask Augustus. Sounds funny but it's true.

Where I live the farmers markets are closed in winter. I do fully support it when open.

The small local grocer has food that is rancid or one step from rancid. As much as I like to support local
I will not do it at the price of food poisoning. It’s been that way for the last decade at least. People have made complaints about it for as long as I can remember.

Just wait till they double the minimum wage...

It's like the proponents don't understand the inflation it will cause. Then again maybe they do, eh?

Finally someone understands the intent to sabotage. Everything we've been seeing in the last couple years points to an orchestrated means to an end.

I don’t like fast food, but Taco Bell is my guilty pleasure (only at one Taco Bell that is exceptionally clean). A few weeks ago I went through the drive through. I laughed when they gave me the bag that was sealed with a sticker. I guess that sticker makes some people feel better, I thought to myself it was more like they were sealing the Covid Coodies in LOL.

Two prices stood out to me, butter and tea. Two staples. They were both around 30-40% higher.

It's harder to get good deals now than it was a year and a half ago. We have to go to Econo this week and get a couple cans of Hills Brothers coffee for stock, the original blend 26 oz is three ninety nine. Meijers has paper toweling yet I think, buy one at a buck and get three free. I want another thirty case of that for seven fifty. Decent paper towel too, individually wrapped rolls and not the flimbsy fifty cent a roll stuff they used to sell. Meijers also has pork chops for a buck a pound, I might have to get a few more family packs of that. Both stores are in one trip to Mqt. It does not pay to make a trip ten miles unless you have a decent sale. Might get some more spam from Menards, cheapest place around for that canned fake meat that taste great fried with eggs. Plus, eleven percent off rebate. We need more seeds and some starting topsoil for the plants and Menards has the best seed prices around here.. We usually hit four stores then go to a restaurant for lunch when we go down there, even with the twenty five percent regulation, you can usually get in around one thirty to eat most places.

The prices here have increased too but there are a few things I do that cut costs. I very rarely buy premade or highly processed foods. Usually bags of frozen chicken cost less per pound compared to fresh. Unless I'm doing something fancy most recipes are perfectly ok or adaptable with frozen veggies. Frozen veggies are in most cases more nutritious than fresh because they don't degrade during shipping and sale. Plus it's super easy to steam veggies in a lidded dish with butter and spices while you cook the other parts of the meal.

If you roast a chicken or something similar, toss that carcass in the pressure cooker and make broth or stock. Use the leftovers and frozen veggies to make an easy and filling soup. Be inventive and find ways to reduce leftover waste. Rice is always a cheap and versatile filler.

Unfortunately sometimes the market dictates that we have to change our buying and eating habits. Continuing to shovel money into the fire just makes the problem worse.

Of course you are going to pay more when they throw perfectly good "out of date" or "blemished produce" food in the dumpster. The customer always pays for that practice. And the big box stores just write it off. Doin' business the American way.

The dumpsters are locked btw.

At least my friend can still get broken donuts and potato chips from the bakers as long as he promises to feed it to his pigs.
