Solving climate change would be "the most amazing thing humanity has ever done", says the billionaire founder of Microsoft.
By comparison, ending the pandemic is "very, very easy", he claims.
Mr Gates's new book, How to Avoid a Climate Disaster, is a guide to tackling global warming.
Don't underestimate the scale of the challenge, he told me when we spoke last week.
"We've never made a transition like we're talking about doing in the next 30 years. There is no precedent for this."
Fifty-one billion is how many tonnes of greenhouse gases the world typically adds to the atmosphere each year.
So isn't it a bit rich for him now to demand government intervention? He replies he has always supported "the basic role of government in terms of roads and justice and education and scientific research". And, on the climate issue, he maintains it will be impossible to avoid a disaster, particularly for those who live near the equator, without governments around the world getting behind the effort. The Republican Party in America needs to recognise the importance of tackling climate change, says Mr Gates.

To me it is interesting that Gates lives in a country (America) that has driven down our carbon emissions, but backs a political party that will drive up imports from places like China and India.
Who will need more energy to produce more products, which will cause even more carbon emissions because they use a lot of hydrocarbons for energy...
Does he not understand that China, India and America are on the same planet?
So a man that made his billions dumpster diving at IBM for tech and stealing his partner's ideas will now save the world?
He's the greatest scumbag in modern history.
And he knows it.

He is an American citizen running an American company.
I understand why you don't understand that.
Since you and all the cool kids are globalists now.
Speaking of "Global", care to chime in on how having China and India emitting more C02 is good for the planet and how Gates is going to "solve" this?

Solving the issue of an EXTREMELY innocuous virus?
Why bother? It’s not a threat.

I didn't realize China was 3rd world.
I didn't realize capitalism is good outside of the US.
I didn't realize that so many posters interested in Democrats success were non-american residents.
