If 2+2 equals 4...oh my god I'm racist!!!

Math is Universal, everyone should be allowed to have the right to mathematical education, if there is any evidence to counter that claim please state so because many "ethnic people" should be entitled to mathematical education.

Just stay away from long division, I can make more sense out of that then the current state of American politics..

Idiocracy shouldn't have been a guide.

I guess they don't need the right answer when we pay our taxes.

The irony here is that many of the mathematical principles that want to paint as white supremacy were ethnic in the sense they think they're promoting. In other words, we know they originated in cultures that aren't originally Western. And again, that should underscore the idea that math is multicultural, multiethnic and truly universal.

My wife told me this is nothing new. State education boards have done this before around the country. They, the school board put similar math program in place with my wife's school district, it was a dismal failure to say the least .( My wife said) that to me. ) She said it lasted for one academic school year ; and so many students fell behind that they were not up to grade level the next year.

My wife has been a teaching for nearly 30 years and from what she told me is when the kids did the math they would have to explain in statement about the wrong answer in order to credit for the wrong answer. ( HUH ? , that's what I said) she said these statements were far from showing and working the math problems. Then there were the parents of the kids that would get upset when my wife did not give them credit for a wrong answer statement. she would send the kids home with it for homework.
The other problem with this is some of the statement's were made by the parents for their kids, My wife could tell by the grammar. ( the parents were telling the kids what to write. ) So she decided to have them make the math statements in the classroom and not send it home with the kids as homework. Some parents got more upset and complained to the school principle. The teachers of school and the principle concluded some of the parents were trying to game the system for there kids on the new math program that credited wrong answers in the first place. it was total disaster she said. boggles the mind.

In addition to this I asked my wife where this stuff comes from, i.e. these so called learning programs. Her answer , " Educational publishing companies that print and sell the school books, Think Tanks and some political pandering to voters." she said no teacher is ever involved in designing math programs at the classroom level at all, like in never. Unless of course your a teacher that works for a publishing company. Teachers must always follow the state curriculum given or your fired. My wife said this program in Oregon is very likely being pushed by a state ed department contractor-publisher, and they just threw in the word teacher for pandering purposes. It appears that's it's optional training she said , but likely not. The trainers work for the publishing companies. kind of like what was done before in her school but this time with a twist of social justice included, publishers re-brand programs all the time. said she would not be surprised if this is a revision of the program she was teaching in 2010 .

Yep, and if it's like it was when I was teaching, they'll inform you about three weeks or less before you start a school year that they've decided to shift curriculum. Nevermind that you've spent an entire summer planning your year around the texts and curriculum you had ... nope, you've got a new one! Oh, and don't count on even seeing the text books until you're two or three or more weeks into the year.

The Oregon Department of Education (ODE) recently encouraged teachers to register for training that encourages "ethnomathematics" and argues, among other things, that White supremacy manifests itself in the focus on finding the right answer.

I can't believe anyone ever falls for this crap

They need an Ignoble Prize.

I don't think I've ever wished a Darwin Award on anyone more.

I feel bad for all those Kids that are going to lose out on a real education because an Adult is making stupid decisions.

You'd think the U.S. Department of Education would be able to step in and lay down some kind of Standard that the School has to follow instead of this Idiocy.

Why would you suppose the US Dept. of Ed. isn't behind it all? Schooling in the US started to decline right around the time the US Dept. of Ed. was established.

I wish instead they would focus on whatever it is that makes black kids feel like they can't do it. And then consequently, they can't.

Because they believe they can't.

I showed this to a friend who works in Education. He's never heard of it. He thinks it's Fake.

Could it be that someone is manipulate The Information Age to Hate... Black People or Fox News?

I'm beginning to realize I can't trust Fox any more than CNN. Both just blindly slosh information around, but rooting for different sides.

This is the link the article gave for the actual curriculum. Better to get it from the horse's mouth.

equitablemath.org...

Pages 59-65 are probably the most controversial. But they're not necessarily saying what Fox is saying they are saying.

It's more saying that, if they get it wrong, try and narrow down the part they got wrong, see if they just misunderstood the instructions and remind them they got part of it right, so it doesn't hurt their pride.

I think the writer doesn't understand math at all. (Elsewhere they say the only prerequisite for Calculus is arithmetic --- you have about 0% chance if you didn't already know algebra.)

However, they are probably right about the teaching part. Kids egos are going to stop them from moving forward if you hurt their feelings too much.

Right now, America is losing ground to Asia at a terrifying rate when it comes to math and science. Chinese schools are teaching math in high school that rivals the math that I did in college. The last things that schools should be doing is dumbing down. They should be moving away from the social sciences ad towards that hard sciences. While American children are hearing about how a character in a fictional novel felt when they were marginalized in an event that didn't really happen but some author felt was important to express, Chinese and Korean kids are studying the the kind of things that they need to know to build the next generation of smart phone, or how to build a better missile to fire at an American aircraft carrier.

This kind of highlights the problem.

Some people are naturally good at math. Some aren't.

And part of the divide is cultural. Cultures that are able to put aside emotion and simply do what they're told, also do better at math.

In the long run, there is no way to completely sidestep this. But if you're only trying to make sure they get up to a certain point, beyond which they will probably never improve, then massaging their ego will remove the biggest barrier.

Most kids have the IQ, if they're able to keep their EQ out of the way.

So basically what they are saying is that if minorities don't get the answers right often enough the questions must be racist.

Why would any minority let people describe them that way? I mean, if its not true... uhhhh... yeah... I'll show myself out.

But I am glad they dumbed down the civil service exam. There were way too many white people working those jobs. I always wondered though: If dumbing down the tests just gave minorities a better chance at passing, why are the white people who are also passing the tests not getting the job offers? Its almost like the whole thing was made up just to give an unfair advantage to minorities, all while they cry about slavery and reparations - which would seem to include dumbing down entrance exams but hey, what do I know?

I asked myself "Are we really going full retard ? ' And then I looked around at what the world has become and the answer is "Yep".

I'm with you bud. No, just no. But those idiots pushing for this have no idea about the origins of various levels of mathematics nor are they cognizant of those that contributed to what we have today.

From Egyptians, to the Indians, to the Muslims.
